View Full Version : Ever get the feeling your Wife wants you out of the Picture?

Ok so i'm on backshift all this week, at around 7.30am my wife wakes me up to tell me there is around 6" of snow. I get back to sleep only to be awakened 30 mins later with a frantic call explaining that she has spun her car around 50 yds from where we live. She asks if she can take the 106 instead, she drives an MR2 turbo. I say thats no problem and get back to sleep.. again.

At 12 she calls me again on her lunchbreak pleading with me to take a taxi instead of the MR2 (i wasn't touching the sup). I explain that i will be fine and told her not to worry, i explain that i'll text her when i get to work.

So, its time for me to leave and i go out to see where the car is parked. She got such a fright she just parked it up where she spun and walked back. I found it, as i said, around 50 yds from the house with another 6" of snow on it. I get in and drive to my work which is around 11 miles away. The journey consists of a motorway and a dual carrigeway.

I got to work, got out the car and made my way from the carpark but decided, because i was early, to have a look over the car and make sure she didn't hit any kerb's or anything like that. I was around 20ft from the car, walking back, when i spotted something not quite right.

Believe me when i say, these pics don't quite do the damage justice. When i called her, slightly miffed, she admitted that she had hit the kerb and neglected to mention it. It wasn't till she saw the wheel she finally showed some remorse and realised how dangerous the wheel was. Unbelievably the tyre has not gone down at all, i actually drove the car home.. all be it at 20mph. I've got a couple of spare alloys i can put on for now thankfully.

Wow. That's fooked. Quite funny that she didn't mention it really :D
Amazing that the tyre hadn't down.

Still, it was only those advan three spokes, you can buy some nice looking wheels now ;)

Well her friend text her today and said she knows someone who can fix the alloy. I explained that i could probably get a 2nd hand replacelment set for 250ish but she said she likes the ones that are on it lol.

I'm quite surprised she didn't blame me :p

I think the alloys are really soft so i don't think any damage will have been done but it'll be getting checked anyway :D

Still can't believe my luck, i was doing 75 at one point lol.

When do you think ;)

I didn't think it was safe to repair either tbh but i did a search on the net and saw some horror alloys that got repaired.

For the sake of 250 or so i would rather her be safe than sorry. I'll talk to her about it later.

A friend of a friend is having a go at repairing it. He said as long as its only the outer rim and none of the spokes it will be fine.

Taking 50 quid but i need to finish it myself.

Subtle, I like your thinking, a good beating might get you your collar felt, but an exploding, repaired wheel, well officer "accidents" do `appen..... :)

Throw the wheel in a skip - it's dangerous to you, her and whoever else is around when it lets go.

If she likes the styling so much then buy another the same, but take that rim and tyre and skip them.

No way dude.... SERIOUSLY... the are formed as a single cast piece, you can see the material structure in the crack. There is no way to rejoin the metal, it would always be a weak spot.

Erm.......

The overall strength of that wheel will now be almost non existent. Do not drive on that wheel mate......:eek::faint:

From memory, Tony Ball was the name of the first MKivSupra owners club member to die in my time in this club. He died in Southhampton when his damaged wheel came apart, despite members telling him to ditch the wheel. I believe he also killed a motorcyclist in the ensuing crash.

Any other long standing members may feel free to correct me on the details, of course.

OK, for a start lets see what we have here:
1. MR2 Turbo - very very cool car, you have great taste
2, WTF are you on letting a woman drive an MR2 Turbo and you a 106?
3, 3-spoke alloys - you need shooting..............

The MR2 was mine, i was going to sell it to buy the sup but she liked it so much she wanted to keep it. The 106 is just my daily driver, the sup is for the weekend.

TBH i really like the Advans on the MR2, the wife loves them. I think its the only car they actually suit, that i have seen anyway. I don't like the look of them on the Sup. I had BK alloys on there before, black chrome ones, but they got slightly kerbed. Found out the hard way that you shouldn't have the same size tyres all round on a powerful rwd car lol.

I'm with these guys, don't repair it, bin it and buy new. Would you run a marathon if you'd just had a cast put on your broken leg and the nurse said, it SHOULD be ok to walk on??

And ignore the nasty comments about the three spokes, sure, I wouldn't have them, and I may inwardly chuckle if I saw them going down the street, but if you like them, keep them - its your car, and modding is about individuality - hell, I have veilside skirts on my soop, and we all know what "the club" thinks of them ;)

At the end of the day who cares we all like different things and as long as you like what you got the Hell with what others think right?

Be safe mate and get rid, you will be better off safety wise for sure.
