I'm in Qatar for a few days and it is so boring here, this place is not quite the end of the earth, but it's pretty close :(

Dry country only a couple of hotel bars in the whole place, and at about a fiver a pint it's a bit pricey too :(

Basrah is only up the road, its quite good there in the evenings, normally get a few rockets and mortars to liven things up!!

ah, qatar, spent 8 months out there, quads in the sand dunes, diving, shopping etc.. not a bad place to be... bit warm on the pan though...
I'm living in Qatar at the moment :) If you head south of Doha towards the Sealine resort, you can kick back there and have fun on the dunes. Some nights they have the hill-climb events as well - heavily tuned Landcruisers tring to get up the steepest dune they can find as fast as possible.
Where are you staying? If you're unlucky enough to be stuck in Al Khor then yes, it is pretty bloody dreary! :D
