Information kindly from Nic:

The correct bulbs for the J-spec plastic headlights (early and late model) are:

Low = 9006J
High = 9005J

The J variant of the bulbs are a different fit to the standard 9006/HB4 and 9005/HB3 bulbs. The 9005/HB3 bulbs will fit in place of the 9005J, but the 9006/HB4 bulb will not fit in the low beam (the diameter of the body of the bulb is too big). As an alternative you can use a 9005/HB3 bulbs in the low beam as well (note you will need to trim a rib on the connection with the harness so that they will fit, very easy to do), ie

Low = 9005HB3
High = 9005/HB3

Here are pics of each bulb to illustrate the differences, note the difference in the diameter of the 9006J (20mm) and 9006/HB4 (22mm) body; this is what causes the fitment problems.

Note: the UK spec glass headlights do not have this problem, they are designed to fit Low 9006/HB4 and High 9005/HB3

That's handy, i've just got a pair of uk spec glass headlights - no bulbs - what's the spec for HiD bulbs? As white and bright as possible. (Hope you don't mind me asking on your thread, if it's a no-go wipe me off moderators).

Bulb colour is rated using the Kelvin scale.

So for Jspec... 9005 in low and high beam.

Anymore info as to what part you actually trim? any pics?

It's a small rib inside the plug where the bulb connects to the wiring loom, it'll be obvious when you try to connect the bulb and loom.

Will using the 9005/HB3 cause seal issues, condensation in the Lenses of JSPEC lights?

I think a bulb shop is the place. Failing that, do you know Halfords?

Why do people have to be such smart arses,

The Low = 9006J; High = 9005J for JSpec are not available in EU as far as I know

I just bough the HB4 Osram Cool Blue Bulbs, have not tried to fit them yet

Btw, I think you'll need 2 sets of HB3 if yours is a J-spec

Correct

ray007 for reasons explained on first post, use 9005/HB3 in both the high and low beams, these should be available from any general motor parts shop, eg. Halfords

UK spec differs between hi-lo beam. Jspec Hi Lo is the same. You need different lamps for fogs only. :)

What about US spec facelift headlights? I think my local dealer bought J-spec for my supra after i wanted to replace one headlight after some stonechip damage. I live in sweden, and there need US spec facelift headlights.

Could someone maybe post the toyota ordernr for this item?

They are H3, I just ordered some blue ones to match my HID's, does anyone know what the size of the small driving,parking lights are?, I'd like those in blue as well.

Sorry for the thread revival here, but I am trying to find a set of HID fog light bulbs to fit my Jspec headlights..
Anyone know what bulb the foglight is on Jspec, or where to get a HID kit for it?

Thanks so much for this. I just need to know where to buy the 2006J spec. I bought HB3 9005 and trimmed down and that fits fine.

So are people snipping the bulb rib or the harness its self rib, because i can see inside there is 2 nubbins where as the old bulb only had one hence why it needs snipping some off but which side bulb or harnes?

The bulb not wiring loom. I'm doing this this weekend.

are the UK spec and the N/A spefc headlights assemblies the same? and also if i went from a jspec to a UK spec assembly would it just be plug and play or would i have to do some mods?

All UK headlights have glass lenses & chrome inners, the 93-96 j-spec headlights have plastic lenses & chrome inners, the 96+ j-spec headlights have plastics lenses & dark grey inners they also don't have the small sidelights inside - the side lights were moved into the indicator assembly. The Uk and j-spec headlight are all for right hand drive cars. The US supra headlights are the same as the j-spec but are left hand drive. The European Supra headlights are the same as the UK but left hand drive.

All the headlights are interchangeable, the bulb specs of the J-spec headlight are slightly different to the rest but are basically plug and play otherwise.

See the first post on this thread it explains the bulb differences, the j-spec bulbs aren't available outside of Japan, what most do is fit 9005/HB3 bulbs in the low and high beam, you will need to remove a small plastic rib on the wiring connector that plugs into the bulb. If you have trouble getting the lugs on he bulb into the headlights unscrew the collar off the back of the headlight first (held on with 3 small screws), fit bulb then screw the collar back on.

Please confirm that these bulbs will fit. I know they're not road legal but I'm fed up of the candles on the front of my car

I double checked the diagram the 9006 HB4 is bigger than the 9006J that makes sense now, anyone know if you can purchase without trimming? Or any led kit?.
