View Full Version : Petrol to go to £1.50 a litre.

I've just been reading the Daily Express and the front page story is that it looks like petrol will hit £1.50 per litre by the end of the year but to add to the frustration of this, the government want to add ANOTHER 2.35p onto the price of petrol on the 1st of April. I wish we could get the Conservative party back into power instead of the f**king labour party wan*er Gordon Brown (obviously i do realise that a lot of you will probably disagree with this)

Marc,

I don't tbh think any government will be nice to the Motorists, we are seen as a cash cow for the coffers.

This is just another way to make motoring an elite past time.

THe UK is a whole mess, we are heading for a 100% melt down as costs spiral out of control.

This is not good news for our club either.

This means that some guys won't be able to afford the fuel so their cars will go up for sale; resulting in massive depreciation as the market becomes flooded.

At the end of the day, I bet there are a fair few guys in this fine club of ours that saved their arse off for their Supras but didn't quite realise the true cost to run the thing.

I can see the petrol stations being done over but for the petrol in this case and not for the money in the till.

That will be a funny sight when the armed robber is filling his car up on the forecourt instead of nicking the dosh.

price of oil has been dropping the last couple of weeks - but have we the consumers seen any of the action? what amazes me is how we've all been groomed to accept that £1.05 for diesel is now "the norm".... the price at my local shell went up to 1.08 yesterday :( i'm spending an extra £50 a month getting to work compared to three months ago, and i bet a LOT more compared to this time last year :(

I don't think the British public would accept paying anywhere near £1.50 per litre, it would a tipping point and maybe we'll emulate the French (recent) mentality. If the Labour government don't drop the fuel duty then they simply won't win the next election. Maybe the Tories should announce they'd cap petrol prices at 95p for unleaded and make up the losses by increasing oil companies' taxes slightly and pulling out of Iraq/Afghan'.

It's not just the fuel either.

About 6 months ago I would pay less then £90 for a weekly food shop (mainly essentials, not luxuries'), now I be lucky to get the same stuff for £120-£130 a week. :(

that was said before, the public would never pay a £1 a litre:tongue: remember we are a nation of complainers but not a nation of protesters;)

We just let go 31 people in December.

I changed Departments last August and I was meant to get a pay rise in November I didn't get it because of Redundancies so I was promised one this April. I am not holding my breath. :taped:

Government dont seem to realise fuel costs have a direct affect on inflation. Pretty much everything we buy/use in our daily lives relys on fuel at some point, be it power for production or petrol for delivery.

Fuels gone up about 20p in the last year (say 25% increase)
Electricity/gas went up 15% last month, let alone the rest of the year,
Foods on the increase,
Houseing markets just stupid.

And inflations running at 2.something % - yeah course it is! :taped:

The UK is a sleeping giant, as a nation we take far too much on the chin with our stiff upper lips, but theres only so long you can kick a dog before even the most dosile ones bite back!

Making this country a better place is not done by jacking the price of everything up, thats how we got here in the first place! Its done by beating teenages in hoodies and getting our priorities right.

Token efforts to reduce CO2 emmisions - are not worth it when people in developed countries start starving because they cant afford food, or to heat their houses anymore.

Please, an ounce of common sense from the government, just for a day!

Not that I've thought about it but you need a license to store petrol over a certain amount of litres

I don't think the British public would accept paying anywhere near £1.50 per litre

We have no choice. Remember when it was 60p a litre? Everyone would never had dreamed of paying over £1 for litre back then

Luckily my car is purely a weekend car, but £1.50 is a joke.

There will more than likely be a mass flood of protests but they never get organised well enough to make any sort of impact.

Sorry to hear that, but this is exactly the kind of thing I expect we'll be seeing more of.

The more our labour bills go up to sustain steep rising in cost of living the more likely company heads will decide to outsource to China and other countries, meaning more redundancies.

This flinch reaction of "well pay me more money" is far from the answer.

Its a pretty flawed idea, as we all know most of the money in fuel goes to the government, leaving the likes of shell with about 20p per L. They arnt going to want to give any of that up for the sake of a few thousand motorists pledging to use their stations - they already do that in the form of optimax cards etc.

Tesco offer 5p a L off, BUT its only if you spend £50 with them in store - so one way or another tey get their pound of flesh.

I think the pipe line cards a dead duck, although id gladly be prooved wrong!

We do outsource to China a lot already. I work in the Purchasing Department of a Chemical Firm.

The other problem is aswell that all though the price of living will inevitably go up and up but if wages don't go up accordingly more people will be pushed towards the poverty limit.

Then the Gov't will raise the duty on that when everyone is using it!
No real way of getting around the problem, see how they made people buy diesel's and then raise the price.
We need a rebellion or something cause this will just get worse and all owners of big capacity engines will suffer.....not that the Gov't care.

It's a joke, without us tax payers the goverment would be screwed why don't the realise this and help us all out.
the only way to bring fuel prices down is to boycot 2 of the major petrol stations for a couple of weeks ( pb llehs etc makes more sense backwards) for example, and everyone who used these stations did it they would then be forced to bring down the price, after all for every £40 you put in £32 goes to goverment!!!!

I have no idea why this thread is here, purely for the fact that we all go "isn't it terrible" and do c*ck a**.

We may as well just drop our pants and start singing "moon river", because nothing ever happens and we are allowing this to happen. It's all our fault and we are either too scared, too disinterested or having to cope with the rest of the s**t thats thrown at us.
