mawby
1) Where does the stock boost signal come from? 2) Has anyone ever hooked a boost gauge, or a custom made boost/signal display, into the stock boost signal?
Homer
When you say stock boost signal, do you mean the reference for the MAP sensor that the ECU uses?
mawby
I dunno. How does the stock ECU know when to trigger fuel cut?
Wez
It uses the signal from the stock map sensor.
Kranz
Boost pressure (map) sensor will be a voltage output to the ECU, so wiring up a proportional guage to this to read bar boost wouldn't be too difficult.

Homer
That could depend if it's VVTI or not, if it's non-VVti then I'm not sure where it gets the reference from, but presumably the map sensor, if it's VVTi then it'll use a different point as it's MAF based
Wez
All motors as far as I am aware still have a Map sensor, its just the maf based ones dont use it for fueling. Hence you can easily convert a UK/US motor to map from maf with a calibration change on an AEM
mawby
I assume it's relatively accurate as my boost gauge reads exactly 1bar when I hit fuel cut, so someone could make their own boost gauge which uses this signal and have it function as a FCD at the same time. Homer
The problem is the MAP sensor can only read to around 1.15bar, the signal goes a bit funny after that.
mawby
That would explain why no one has tried to use it then!
