Just installed this headunit.. haven't had a new stereo for ages, so I kinda just ignored the wires labelled parking brake etc... Now I put the whole thing back together and only now realised I can't access DVD playback on screen, full menu's iPod control, settings etc. Seems like there is a complex system designed to avoid people crashing, I google'd around a bit and I found out Alpine may have a system that only enables display when this happens:
1> Engage foot brake. DO NOT take your foot off
2> Engage park brake
3> Disengage park brake
4> Engage park brake 2nd time
5> Disengage foot brake.
Which means I think I need to go and buy two switches and install the following:
1> connect parking brake cable to ground (-)
2> connect foot brake cable to live (+)
and then do this:
1> Flick foot brake switch ON.
2> Flick parking brake switch ON-OFF-ON.
3> Flick foot brake switch OFF.
Anyone who has installed this can confirm the above / anyone found a better way to do it?
