colsoop
Can anyone recommend a track day tyre with a hard compound that will do a couple of track days. Im looking for a compromise of grip and endurance if possible. Oh and its for the stock tyre sizes.

Chris Wilson
Best are Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, then the Pirelli P-Zero Corsa, and a distant third the R888 from Toyo, which are really too soft and have appalling wet weather grip, not that any of them have GOOD wet weather grip You need to have a dedicated geo set up to get the best from this sort of tyre. Dunlop do some, as do a few other makes, but the Dunlops are pretty soft. Best wear will be from Pilot Sport Cups on a properly set up suspension, on track, and they'll give the best grip. They are, needless to say, the most expensive of the bunch Once the geo is set for track usage road wear will be very iffy, as will tramlining and general noise and harshness. Ian W
R888? Hankook RS2? Never used these...just recommendations I've had. Personally I'd take CW's advice over mine (actually third party from someone else)
colsoop
off topic, but have you nailed that exhaust on yet col Nope the car is on axle stands at the moment. I am refurbing the frotn calipers. It is my next job though. That and getting the spare wheels tyred up.
Bobbeh
R888s will last a couple of track days... you'd expect a few k miles out of a hard compound track tyre.

Excellent tyre I agree but not a track tyre I don't think (unless there are different versions of it....mine are AD05's?)

Ian W
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+Neova+AD07 Like I said then, not strictly a track tyre but damn good. Mine are very similar to those and considered going with more (AD07's) but they're just too expensive. Gone with Parada Spec II's this time. bignum
Dunlop formular r dj01 are very good, recently did donington on them and looking at the tread there`s hardly any wear, i think they`re a medium compound whereas r888 are soft as shite. I looked at those before getting the Toyos too, there was a place in Reading that works on RX7s that could supply them, not bad prices either. Bobbeh
You'd probably have to go 18/19" for the bigger widths.

Syed Shah
http://www.tirerack.com UK tires prices/service is rubbish in comparison.
Chris Wilson
They are an expensive tyre, but as the tyre is kinda important for good handling, and they are considered the best track day tyre for heavy cars...Like you can spend a similar amount on a full car set of pads if you want the best, for decent sized calipers. bignum
I know using the best is going to be expensive but to spend £800 on tyres just to do 5 or 6 trackdays is an expensive option, their are much cheaper and better ways of doing it, imo.
