Went there 2 year ago. Which Hotel you going to??

You have to do the self drive speedboat tour, its an amazing experience.
About 20 speed boats in convoy and you have to keep up with the leader, bit scary at times but great fun. You also stop off at a lagoon for snorkelling.

Found this!!!

"Speed Boat Tour" - 3hrs - 39CUC pp (£22 GBP pp):

We chose the early morning slot as would have rest of afternoon back at hotel. Got picked up at 8am ish and took by taxi/van (none air conditioned & very hot) about 10min down the road to the harbour. There we all put on life jackets, were given free snorkels (sealed in a bag) but we brough our own from home so didnt use it, and were given flippers too. We were then shown how to drive the boats and was told the hand signals for slowing down and speeding up etc, then the fun bit. One by one you get in the boat and are pushed out to the open water where you join a slow moving (to start with) line of boats. When the signal is given you drop the hammer and give it death, all the boats doing zigzags inline across the open water.

When the boats enter the narrow twisty mangroves you must slowdown, then when it opens up again away we all went. Its been mentioned before that these boats are untippable and I would like to confirm this comment is 100% true. Every now and then the boat up ahead would make a sharpe u turn at full speed so to keep up everyone had to do the same. The boats go right on there sides round sharp corners and refuse to tip over - its so much fun, well it is for the guys, Natalie didn't stop screaming!! After 30min of driving the boats you moor them up and put the snorkels & fins on (they have masks too for those who do not have their own) and snorkel in a lagoon with a rope down the middle of it. The current is strong swimming against it but coming back is a lot easier, if your a weak swimmer keep your life jacket on and hold onto the rope. We took bread in a zip-lock bag from breakfast and the fish swarm around you in the hundreds, its an experience we will never forget (until next time anyway hehe). Then its back in the boats for another 30min of white knuckle, hair raising fun. We were back at the hotel by 11am and were in the sea by 11:05am haha.

Their currency is worthless over here so thats why you cant get it. You have to exchange over there.

Can you chage GBP over there or does it have to be euros?

Glosphil
28-01-08, 20:52
You can change GBP, or EURO's but not Dollars, and dont try and use any card with an affiliation to an american bank, they will get funny.

Their currency is a closed currency only for tourists, the local currency is different and totally worthless.

ok lets try and fill you in on the do's and dont's.
1) Make sure that when you fill your visa's in that no spelling mistakes, crossed out words are present, if there are any of the above the immigration at the airport can be quite funny and you can get a delay of up to 4 hrs
2) The currency is the CUC cuban convertable peso, it is strictly a tourist currency and it is illeagle to take it out of the country
3) Change currency at the hotel if possible, the airports are quite usually unwilling to do anything and they will try and con you out of a few quid.
4) ANYTHING you buy make sure you get a receipt as on the way back customs can and will confiscate anything that doesnt have one.
5) Hide your mobile phone if it has GPS on it (N95 etc) as it is highly illeagle and will be confiscated as will any type of GPS sat nav system, DVD players are not especially liked either (no idea why)
6) Dont buy cigars from anyone but a reputable shop and get a receipt, no reciept means you got them from a street trader and to be honest they are really the crappest of the crap cigars, they taste like old tea bags.
& 7) most important HAGGLE LIKE MAD FOR EVERYTHING:d

im going back to Cuba in May (Guardlavacia) for a week and i cant wait its a stunning place, the people are friendly as anything and best of all there are no loudmouthed budwieser guzzling obnoxious ahole yanks there AT ALL they are banned from entering the country:d:d:d
just a couple more if you have an mbna, capital one, ge money, or amex dont use it you will get screwed, and tmobile phones dont work as they block the signal. have a nice time, hope this helped a bit
