Laws of towing a car

Hi all, does anyone no the laws on towing a car, my friend has brought a car off ebay that they say over heats :rolleyes:.

The only problem is that its about a 3 hour drive away.

If i towed him in my supra would i get in trouble with the police?

Don't see you getting in trouble mate, just a very long journey to be towing him all that way with it.

More to the point how much trouble would he be in if he went up the back of your supe?

I was sat in a Skyline being towed, steering and braking and it was the most stressful journey of my life and that was only 60 minutes.

We found out afterwards that it probably was illegal on the motorway if not the whole journey... :)

Yes, and using a towing bar shouldn't be a problem. You cannot tow on motorways, so stick to A roads. ;).

He did wanna use his KA to tow it back lol, I was told i could get in trouble for towing him back on a dual carrageway? I understand that a motorway would be dodgy but i was going to use the A14

AFAIK, no. But a towbar is a much better option imo. But there may be some implication with your licence entitlements ie CAT B and CAT B+E.

TBH I wouldn't want to be towing another vehicle any considerable distance.

If you can beg/borow an A frame or spectacle dolly and tow it properly with a big motor fitted with tow bar. Much safer IMHO.
