View Full Version : Anyone here able to interpret MRI scan imagery?
Hi all,
Been having a few problems with my ankles recently due to increased training and sprains I did last year. I won't go into detail, but went for an MRI scan last Wednesday and got the results last night from the Consultant.
He said I have torn the AFTL ligament on both ankles (outer side) which has caused instability, resting pain and clicking/cracking sensations. The MRI apparently confirms this, but he really wasn't too sure!! I'd like to get a second opinion but don't know how to go about it or who to approach.
This is time critical as I'm due for my Medical and Physical for the RAF soon, and whilst this only seems to be a soft tissue issue, it has been going on for some time and I need it sorted.
Is anyone here experienced in the interpretation of MRI images or do you know anyone who could help? I have about 30 images of each ankle in A3.
Thanks and appreciated.
Greg
I'd go and see my GP. Hope you get it sorted though mate.
Torn ligaments are one of the most common ankle injuries. Just takes time & rest for it to heal and the ligaments to re-grow & reattach.
How long do you have?? Has it swollen up?
Don't worry Greg mate.
Just retain the MRI imagery and add it to your future collection (the one that you will inevitably build up during your time in the forces)
I have a lovely collection of scans :d
Just had an mri scan on my knee, (now in a brace)tore my ACLthe doctor showed me the scans and explained that ligaments and tendens should be black, how ever mine is white looks a bit like a wispy cloud.now undergoing physo, movement is getting better.I would say consult your doctor and try and get some physo.Dont want to be a scare monger but with mine i was told an op would lay me up 6-9 months.Good luck but seek medical advice.
Thanks guys.
I sprained both my ankles a year ago. The left in May 2006 and the right in September 2006! It's a long time ago and I would of thought I'd be OK by now. I play a lot of football, astro-turf, and running, treadmills and outside which may of caused a few more niggles.
In all fairness I never gave it adequate physiotherapy and it may work. I've been put on a 6 week course. I was thinking about ankle arthroscopy as it's had good success rates and the Doc did mention it. I don't want to go back and see my GP as I've gone Private Care for this ;)
Andy - I bet there will be a few more to come no doubt! At least in the Forces you get decent rehab care ..... I think. Same goes for you Colin - bet you have a lovely collection with breaking your back and all bud! :(
Maybe I'll roll with it.
I have 12 weeks before I start Initial Officer Training on 4th May. I have to do a medical and physical on 29th Jan, but going to push that back to mid-Feb as I can't get time off work that early. Plus the physio would of hopefully kicked in properly by then. :)
Here's frikking hoping!
Cheers.
Greg

Mine is white too mate, although very minor. I was told that if I go down the Op route of arthroscopy I'll be out for approx 6 weeks. I have 12 to play with which isn't that bad.
Good luck pal and hope you get it sorted. Ankles are an absolute nightmare with so many damn bones and being a major weight bearing joint!

Hi Steve. No swelling at all mate and I have about 12 weeks for it to be perfect, or near perfect and my fitness to be top notch.
It only seems to hurt whilst resting for periods of time which is damn annoying! Excerise is fine!! :search:

and all of them self induced in your dungeon
