View Full Version : New Custom Sub box
I've been meaning to do this for a while and so over christmas when there was bugger all else happening I thought I'd give it a go.
I had a Fusion Sub box and amp sitting in the garage that I had previously had in my Rover. It performed really well in there but was the wrong shape for the Sup (as so many off the shelf boxes are).
I was thinking about going for a four channel amp to power front components and the sub but since it was here already I thought I'd just go with the one I have. I might stick in another amp for the components under the passenger seat when they get upgraded.
I wanted a nice subtle enclosure that looked professional and could be hidden by the parcel shelf when I don't want people to see it.
I think what I managed to couple together fits the bill pretty well (see pics below). They don't do it justice but I'm pretty chuffed with it. Just need to sort out a new headunit with all the bluetooth and connectivity that my current one has but with plugs for a sub too. Serves me right for buying a cheapo headunit to start with.
More pics to follow once I've fitted it into the car.

looks like youve made a great job of it bud. looking forward to pics when its in the car
Some more pics of the box in the car. Showing the blind/parcel shelf in place too.
Nice & tidy that - useful that you've still got some of the parcel shelf (I mean 'boot') left too - how does it sound?
Cheers mate, yeah its pretty much how I wanted it to look. As for the sound....... its pretty quiet(for now). I'm waiting till the end of the month to get a new headunit and hitch it up. Will let you know then though.
It was a good setup when I had it in my Rover, just hope I've done everything possible to keep it sounding as good. I made sure I sealed the box and its got wadding in it so the overall sound should be pretty close. Not many people rate Fusion stuff but I've been pretty happy with it so far.
Is there anything inside the box on the left hand side as you look at it in those photos?
The actual enclosure forms a kind of reverse L shape to fit round the contours. It does take up a fair bit of the space to the left, but there is space for the cabling to run down the side. I wanted to keep all that out view.
I have to admit my woodwork skills aren't up to much so I could probably have done it in a more efficient/spacesaving way. I did think of doing it with fibre glass as I've used it quite a lot when building kayaks but didn't have the time or the temperatures do do that.
The Supra is a fun boot to get things to fit in properly, but this is a MkI attempt. Once I have a bit more free cash I may make a second attempt with better gear.
I wasn't knocking it, I like it and think you've done a good job
I was just curious as to whether there was any funtional stuff in there or whether you were doing that for tidyness because you need the extra depth/length you get closer ot the centre of the car. :)
Its cool no offence meant or taken mate!
Haha I'm just putting my wood work down before anyone else gets a chance ;)
The shape was to keep it tidy yeah, the bottom template basically fits around the wee bit of suspension turret that pokes up through the boot floor. The top one was just to give it that clean built-in look.
I probably should have taken way more pics as I built the box but totally forgot. I'm pretty sure its the first of many though so i will do for the next one.
I'll take it out and take some pics of the underside tomorrow to give you an idea of the different top and bottom profiles.

Of course, I'd forgotten about that. Good work getting round it!

Nice one :)

That looks very neat.
Do you have a template/measurements for the box ?
Thanks!
Not got the originals but I'm sure it wouldn't take me long to get some measurements off the box for you guys and a bit more info on the build.
I did mean to go take some more pics of the underside of the box today but never got a chance. Will do as soon as I can!

Cheers Shane,
Been hit by the building bug now, I'm thinking about doing something a little more adveturous with two punchy ten inch subs next time and maybe a floating amp rack.....
Just a thought at the moment though.
