(The one im talking about is the same colour as Gaz1's and supradibbs. It has a TRD rear spoiler)

Dans (Private piles) got rebuilt by JPS but he is still not happy.

Fair enough. Did Jonty have a built engine? Is his still alive? and did he sell in the end.

Jontys was done by tunning jap and has held up well, his is going into KR in a couple of weeks to replace the veilside kit with something more modern then its back up for sale.

He has a new M5 he is running about in now and looking at getting a gallardo:cool:

Hi Lads,

 

I ended up getting my turbofit engine rebuilt as they decided to use some kind of sealant to prevent air leaking from the Greddy Intake manifold... and it ended up inside the engine, and caused enough damage to warrant a complete strip down! Even the crank bearings were buggered!

 

So, I got JPS to start from scratch, upgrading nearly everything, including work on the head and 4" piping throughout... to correct Jamie's statement, I wasn't happy with the gearbox refirb I'd had done (it was sent to a gearbox specialist... well, that's what he called himself)... after having the box for 4 months I was quite peeed off when it kept jumping out of 1st gear and making grinding/crunching noises! Having spent alot of money (again!!!) and waiting almost 6 months I didn't expect any further problems.

 

As far as JPS is concerned, so far I've been impressed with the level of expertise and advise they've given me. Although I've ended up spending alot more money then I'd hoped, my engine feels a world apart from the Turbofit gash I'd had before. I managed 500 miles before Leon picked the car up to get the gearbox re-done and the car has never felt so strong... even the vibration through the steering wheel has disappeared.

 

Apparently the gearbox problem has been sorted now so I should get the car back shortly to continue the run in phase. Interestingly, despite the alleged problems with Dan Turner, Leon has inspected his work on my ecu and sat in with Dan when he completed the base map and has no concerns over his technical ability and workmanship. Having guaranteed the engine rebuild I doubt Leon would take any unnecessary risks.

 

Having had my fingers burned throughout my modifying experience, my advise to anyone carrying out technical modifications are as follows:

 

1. If you have a budget of £5k, plan to spend £2.5k... your remaining £2.5k WILL go!

 

2. Choose your tuning garage wisely... especially for engine rebuilds and ecu tuning. In this case choose a garage and give them complete control over both the build and the ecu mapping so as to avoid any conflict when things go bang. I gave Leon carte blanche to build my engine and tune it to his spec... that way if anything breaks it's his responsibilty... this includes boost settings! Also, JPS have proven race experience which should play a big part in choosing your tuner.

 

3. Avoid the cheap option... it'll cost you.

Yup, some sage advice in there from first hand experience. Just a shame members have to experience it really :(

It is a shame people have to go through this pain. But things go wrong from time to time and I believe such times are when companies can really demonstrate how exceptional they are. Unfortunalty in some of these examples the company involved have just washed their hands of it.

Mines still going but heard there is a slight missfire at the minute. Sounds like leads and plugs which I wouldnt be suprised at as its been awhile since they were done.

Ive read about all the heartache people received from TF and even seen some of their dodgy stuff but mine was awesome and pulled really well running mid 12sec 1/4's. Had the NA-T conversion done nearly 2 years ago and never got any major issues.

 

Mine wasnt a complete rebuild though. Just had a 2mm headsasket fitted with abit of headwork and then obviously the turbo kit. Never used jps but from what Ive heard they sound good. As for jdp, they can fu*k (does this comply with the no swearing on public forum) :) right off.
