I'm looking at getting some K2 Polykevlar component speakers but I'm a little worried after reading a few threads about the large 4" magnet fowling the motor. Has anyone else had these fitted using the speakers from the group buy?

Ive had these in my NA and the large magnets do fowl on the window. Focal do a shalow magnet version but im not sure if the sound quality is as good.

The way I got round it was to take of the standard speaker grills. On the back of the door card fix a MDF brace that the bolts can go through and glue it to the door card. Use the grills that come with the speakers to fit the speakers through the MDF mounts to ensure a solid fit without rattles.

I have seen others that have created custom brackets that fit to the door itself and place the speaker as close to the back of the door card as possible, this seems to clear the window.

I would advice that if you are confident in woodwork and happy to spend some time getting it right then go for it, otherwise I would look into gettting someone to do it for you.

Great speakers though, if your are running the through an external amp your will be very impressed with them.

I am planning on using an external Amp. I bought some of the brackets from the group buy a few months back, would these be any use? I don't suppose you have any pictures do you :innocent:

Thanks for the reply

oh be very careful buying focals from e-bay, there was a spate of cheap relicas being sold from places like hong kong.

Have a look at the below site and there is a section on counterfeiting!

These were second hand, but had the 4" rear magnets. I read about the replica's which put me off buying some from there, thanks for the link though :)

I would not worry about the 4" magnets too much thats what I have on mine and you can get them to fit without too much messing about.

Ahh well, the auction ended at 8 so it looks like I'll be getting some polyglass 165 V2 instead :)

I've got Focal Utopia's with pretty hefty magnets in mine and they don't foul the windows with the very nice ply-wood mounts I bought off here...

I went for some Polyglass 165VR (new model apparently). They *seem* to fit, but I won't know until I get the battery fitted.
