Hi
On speakers systems where the tweeter comes SEPERATE to the woofer and crossover, where have people placed it in the FRONT of the supra?
Do you replace the existing tweeter in the dash, or do you attach it to the door or something, or do you custom build it?? I need ideas because im looking to get a set of raindbow speakers for the front, and the top end models seem to come with seperate tweeters..
any decent componenet kit comes with seperate tweets. You'll love the rainbows though - my mate has some and they are
i cut a hole in the door card next to my mid and put the tweet in there. ideally they should be as near to the mid as poss for decent sound staging.

um i dont mean to sound dumb but what do you mean by mid? do you mean in the middle of the car? im not to good with car audio just starting to play about a bit
:D .... yea i heard alot about rainbows, i recently bought new infinity speakers at the back and front, i got good ones to, the rear ones are great as they are 6.5" nice base and clear sounds , but the front ones are 4" and they are good for thier size, but they just dont procduce the level and range or sounds frequncies that there should be...I heard alot of people say that its important to make sure the front speakers are top notch....i heard rainbow are the best so...:D
no worries mate :)
right you have:
subs: big large things that go in the boot and make a thump thump noise
Mids: go in the doors etc and give the midrange sounds
Tweeters: go in the doors etc and give the vocals.
basically mids cover the range of sound in between subs and tweeters.
good place for info, and cheap gear is the audio forum - http://www.talkaudio.com i thik it is. i used to be on there but ended up spending too much so stopped :(
if you need any advice feel free to drop me a pm, been messing about with it for years :) - edit: i mean car audio ;)
oh and i'd strongly suggest you amp the crossovers :)
you'll need a speaker bracket for the front doors too, do a search, theres a template on here somewhere :)

Ohh kool i get it now, lol i feel so dumb....yea i have a sub hooked up already, and I have 4 speakers which have the tweeters built into them...the rear speakers and sub will stay the same, its just the front speakers which im going to change..I had a look for the brackets i have posted up i nthe wanted section, im going to try and build a bracket myself though using some good MDF, doenst look to hard..
So would you recommend cutting a hole and mounting the tweeter in the door close to the woofer part of the mid speaker?
Im looking to get a new amplifier which can handle all the speakers, currently all the speakers have crossovers with them, and they are all hooked up to my headunit..
I currently have a 2 channel amplifier, Does this mean i can attach 2 speakers (front OR rear) and a sub, or can i connect 4 speakers (front AND Rear) and the sub?
Also i was gonna ask, i have heard you get better sound if the speakers are positioned close to the bottom of the door, near the feet is this true do you know?
nah it wont be that difficult if you use the template ;)
yeah as long as you make sure the tweeter isnt going to interfere with anything behind it i.e window mechanism etc. you could mount it on the dash but then you need a pro setup done to get the soundstage right, ideally.
amp wise, you're better off getting one amp (4 channel) to do you mids and tweeters via their respective crossovers, and using the amp you have (if its capable enough) to run the sub.
speaker positions important as you want them all to be firing into the same area. to be honest for a non pro setup the standard locations on the sup are fine. the only thing to remember is keep the mids and tweets close as you want the sound to appear to be coming from the same place. subs dont matter because bass is non directional, i.e you cant really tell where its coming from.
stage the tweeters, ideally have the flushed into the pillars
Sound stage then be raised, sound comin from the front
Better sound
