Had my wireless router for a few years now. At my last house it worked on my laptop, Sprog's wireless card in her desktop, and any 'visiting' laptops.

Now we've moved and Virgin have changed the modem, it still works on my laptop but not on Sprog's desktop or my work laptop.

Have re-set everything on modem / router, settings are the same on both laptops, so why is one working and the other is not? And why has Sprog's stopped working when my laptop still works?

Help! It's making my head hurt, and I'm sure my laptop is about to give up the ghost so need to use my work laptop asap.

Is the router running as a DHCP server?

Do the others work if your laptop is turned off??

Are you trying both laptops from the same location and if so is that close to the router???

Ensure router is excepting both B and G connections.

Ensure if router is running DHCP that your TCP/IP protocol is set to use it.

What TCP/IP address are showing on the 3 devices?

Are you using encryption on the wireless network?

Oh and some routers will show what wireless devices are connection to it, anything in there?

Blimey... will answer what I can!

DHPC server? Read the blurb on Wikipedia, still none the wiser!

Cable goes to the Virgin modem, through the router, and into my desktop - Virgin software installed on there. I never use the desktop, and it's never switched on! Internet works on my desktop. Makes no difference if desktop is on or off for Sprog's desktop and my work laptop.

Sprog's desktop and my work laptop don't work if my laptop is switched off. Location doesn't matter as router has good signal stength, but have moved them around anyway and they still won't work.

What are B and G connections?

Dunno if my router is running DHCP so can't answer the TCP/IP stuff.

Haven't checked the IP addresses... are they not all going to be unique?

Router is unsecured, neighbours used to use it my old house! Don't know how to secure it so haven't bothered.

Router doesn't show what is connected to it.

Lol, I'm an ICT teacher... means I know how to use them, not how to fix them... know a bit more the basics than most, but it's like my car really - just because I can drive it doesn't mean I can change the gearbox!

Will go through anything you think will help!
