hi, i have a very loud banging sound coming from under the car when accelerating. i can fisicly feel it on the floor. it sounds like its coming from the centre tunnel or maybe the rear. any ideas as its getting really loud and very concernig now? prop shaft or drive shafts?
thanks
matt
See if anyone nearby you will come listen.

Perhaps it would be good if you can record the sound and post it on here.
Is it defo not coming from the engine bay - does it happen only when your moving?
Does the knocking change with the speed of the car? ie. does the knocking get faster as the car gets faster? Or is it the same type of knocking whatever speed the car is going?
If it is related to the speed then I'd get it on a ramp and check out the drive shafts, joints, diff, etc. If it's independent of speed, my guess would be one of the exhaust hangers has come loose or the heat shield for the exhaust is loose and is banging on the underside of the car.
You really need to get it in the air and check it over underneath to see what's causing the noise.

Might sound silly, but check if anything has caught on the prop shaft... I had this in one (two?) of my MK1 Capris where a plastic bag had wrapped itself around the prop and put it out of balance.

And your still driving the car ?
Get it on a ramp asap before whatever is making the banging noise lets go and costs you lots of £££'s
My sisters Alfa race car blew a prop a couple of weeks ago which eat its way through the floor and made a right mess of the tunnel.

Sounds like the propshaft centre bearing support has come loose. or is breaking up, get it looked at ASAP, a propshaft failure is never good news!
