charlton
Not sure how to explain it but sometimes when I am going slow and brake there is a grinding noise. This is quite loud and feels like its juddering the car, I've checked the pads/discs and they look fine and have plenty of life in them. It is definately not ABS kicking in either - thats kicked in plenty of times before I went to wash the car today and it was fine before getting washed but straight after it done it twice but not since... Its almost like there is something stuck between the pad and disc - this happened a few weeks ago and now twice today. It doesn't do it going faster and braking and doesn't do it all the time. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

d00gzy
ive had exact same kinda grinding noise, its annoying the hell outa me. Took wheel off and pad life looked ok, took car to kwik fit and the told me the inside pad (the bit you cant see when the wheel is off) was worn and it was the warning shim that was scratching the disc so you know your pad is low! Change of pads will probably cure your grinding noise (or maybe not).
d00gzy
funny thing, the noise started not long after washing the car also, thought maybe pressure washing the wheels pushed something between the pad and disc. Thats how it sounds!

May look into beefing up my brakes if its costly... ive had exact same kinda grinding noise, its annoying the hell outa me. The pads are low but have a few thousand miles left on them but its not everytime I brake, it has only happened a few times and that has been a few weeks apart funny thing, the noise started not long after washing the car also, thought maybe pressure washing the wheels pushed something between the pad and disc. Thats how it sounds! I thought that it could of been something like that, when it first happened I was pulling up at some lights after leaving the motorway so it made me doubt it. I've never heard it before in any car...
Todd
Dust shield maybe? Check caliper bolts are tight. What about the handbrake shoes, checked them?
suprattgaz
Dust shield maybe? Check caliper bolts are tight. What about the handbrake shoes, checked them? Or a bush on it's way out? Hard to tell without hearing/playing with it! Stone in the drum? Or if it does it when wet have you got a short occuring between ABS sensors? Sounds electrical if it does. Try getting it wet then diagnostics testing, happended on mine and it told be I had a short Front O/S sensor, clever car!
Dave
this happened to mine so took the front pads out and the warning thingy was rubbing on the disc .changed pads sorted. if your getting a noise when braking its rubbing on the disc and scoring it so get it sorted . charlton
Happened again this morning (but not as bad as yesterday) so its not just when its wet. The noise seems too loud and wrong to be just a warning - I hope it is though. Will definately try all the things listed here - thanks for your help!!
