A sad day....

I've done it - I've just contacted the dealer I bought my Supra from to see if he is interested in buying it back :( this is one of his services.

It's not absolutely definate but things are tight at the moment and the running costs are hitting me where it hurts.

It's a totally stock 93 black TT with only 44000 on the clock (see my garage). I've only done 6k fairly gently miles in the year I've had it. My mate summed it up a few days ago when we were walking back to it, he said "god, you can't sell it man - look at it, it's gorgeous!"

I paid £9k last november including fitting Cat1 etc and I have a figure in mind that I would accept if offered but I can't say in case the dealer reads the forum!

All I would say is that I would recommend this group to any Supra driver I ever met - and if it does go, I will definately get another one! (when the time is right)

Your not the only one mate, after my road trip in feb with the lads I'm thinking of selling mine for the same reasons cost... my life style has changed and suddenly the Supra is becoming more of a burden even though I love it... I'll probably keep it but it keeps crossing my mind!

Good luck with the sale!

Cheers guys.

I thought about doing that Darragh, even ran it past 'er indoors but to buy a run around, tax it, MOT and insure it would probably work out the same as using the Supra till summer.

Even still, I've never liked using the Supra as a daily work driver, it's waaaaaay too good for that! ;)

get yourself to an auction and pick something up cheap with tax and test on it my wee bro (who owns a mint evo 3) bought a honda accord for £100 and it was taxed and tested he sold it for £500 after a good clean and is now looking another runaround its as easy as that:d even lock the supra up till march and transfer the insurance to the runaround (ie a 1.0ltr saxo or corsa)the amount of money ull save will be amazing and ull have the option of reinsuring the supra come the better weather:cool: just an idea as i no id be lost if i sold mine;)

Sorry to hear your situation mate but as some have already said by taking your supe of the road & using a cheap little run around will make such a differance! I've had mine off the road for a couple/few months & I'm really surprised how much extra cash I have from doing this! But in saying that the money I've saved has gone into a new kit & spray so It'll be ready by the begining of the new year!:)

So get a cheap runner and you wont be disapointed in the long run mate!

Don't do it! That was a beauty you picked up from Mackays last year. I almost bought it myself, but was won over by the convertible-ness of the NA Aerotop. Was real fun over summer but I'm kind of wondering if I'd have been better going for the TT, especially now it's winter so the top's staying on for a while :( Mind you, in these conditions I reckon I'd quickly write myself off in a TT!

Are the running costs that high? I'm finding fuel is noticable (I get about 18 mpg) but insurance ain't too bad and MoT/service were the cheapest I've ever had (absolutely no problems at all - the only problem they could find was that the "horn makes a strange noise"!).

All the best from a fellow Mackays customer (and like you I'd definitely recommend them).

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the comments everyone - still undecided.

@ Tich - your probably right about the running costs, my insurance is under £500pa and it breezed through it's MOT - it's really just the fuel, and the monthly payments I could do without!

Anyway, we'll see how things go over the next few weeks/months :D

Money aside I still think it's the best thing ever and I hope your still enjoying yours as much as I'm enjoying mine!.

As everone says just drive the supra less and buy a runabout. I recently had to change my job due to redundancy and my commute went from 2 mile round trip to over 60. I was spending 400 a month on fuel alone. If you get a cheap diesel it will soon pay for itself and the supra starts to feel special again when you drive it.
