View Full Version : AFR Tuning Ltd
Hi all :)
AFR Tuning Ltd is opening for business in January 2008. Well it's about time there was someone down here for us southerners ;)
We are aiming to be a complete one-stop facility for Japanese Performance vehicles, whether it be a service or a full project car. We can offer engine rebuild services, inhouse mapping services on both chassis and engine dynos and also bodywork.
We are currently sharing facilities with www.austec.co.uk who are based on the Gatwick Manor industrial estate in Gatwick, just a few minutes from the M23. The address is:
International Park
Priestley Way
Crawley
West Sussex
RH10 9NT
www.afrtuning.co.uk
The landline is now in and the number is 01293 523538, but I am quite often out and about so try the mobile too on 07837 257928. Full address and directions are available on the website too.
*** Now Taking bookings ***
My technician will be with me from Monday 14th Jan :)
Hope to see you soon
Sounds Awesome Matt!! Let me know if I can help on anything!

Nice one Matt Ill be paying you a vist for sure good luck.
Yep good luck with it Matt! :)
Don't suppose it's the place you can see just off the railway? I remember seeing an industrial estate with TVR signs up when I was on the Gatwick Express from Victoria to Gatwick Airport, just before it arrived at the airport.
Cheers,
Brian.
Pretty sure that's their old place mate, they moved recently to bigger premises :)

That would explain one of the signs missing a panel!

Looking forward to this opening Matt, as you know I will be needing a slot for the TT6 cam service and possible heater matrix (nice job to start with !!) and then to look at the mapping of the single car which should be run in by mid Jan
Cheers Dean

Good luck with the new venture.

Right, phone line is in as is internet. I have updated the first post to include the land line number :)
I will post pics of the dyno cell once it's nearer completion, but it's looking good and I am already looking to arrange a dyno day.
Incidentally, we also have injector flow testing facilities here :)

Care to elaborate?
Thanks for your pm Baldy, all duly noted. However, think it's more than a bit 'off' to post comments like that in this thread. The decision to move in with Austec was not taken lightly and I am committed to 100% service. I can offer services that I wouldn't have been able to offer had I opened my own unit, and nothing so far has made me worry.
In fact, I had conversations with Gazboy all about Austec long before agreeing to move in, simply because Gaz is a moderator on Pistonheads and could give me feedback. The feedback was good or I wouldn't be here.
I'm sure the forum members coming in today will report back as will those having work done this week.
Austec are currently going through a massive re-investment into the business, there's lots of plans afoot and these will therefore benefit forum members.
What I do know is that there were some issues back at the old unit, the then workshop manager has now gone and a new one is in place. Richard has made a marked difference to the operation at Austec in terms of quality control and workshop management.
sorry mat
i wasnt trying to stitch you up.
as your just renting space in the same shop im sure it'll be all good.

Sounds good Matt, if non supras are allowed to the dyno day ill bring along the Monaro:)
While there was absolutely no need for the above comments to be posted as they are not related to the business which I'm setting up, I feel it is in the best interest of all to perhaps add some detail. Firstly the poster used to work at the premises and so felt it worthwhile to pm me and give me the 'headsup'. This I genuinely do appreciate although I feel it could've been kept to a pm so that I am not judged before I have turned a spanner ! I understand that there were some issues at Austec a while ago but I can also see how these are being addressed. Thus far I have been impressed, especially with the new workshop owner Richard.
Secondly and most importantly please note that I'm at the moment simply renting space and some specialized equipment from Austec. While this is not an issue, I feel some damage has been done and would like to invite anybody down at any stage to have a look round and have a chat with me.
I am genuinely excited about what I will be able to offer us Supra nuts. In fact 2JG\Jeff is due any minute so can't sit here chatting to you lot :D
Let me know when your bodyshop is up and running mate, Austec's is pretty busy so I will occasionally have need of a good bodyshop :)
Good luck Matt. I hope to be in a position soon to book my car in with you for a check over/service.

Thanks Andrew :)

As the saying goes, 'the proof's in the pudding', and nothing that's been said will deter me from coming to see you at some point soon.
I know I'm only a 'little voice' on here, but I'm sure others wouldn't be worrying at all about the stuff that's been said.
Any new business needs boosting as best it can, so strike that to one side and get on with your new venture :)
To infinity, and beyond! :)
:yeahthat:
Knowning what Matt is like with his car and the detail to perfection he has im sure AFR will be a great success:)

Mine is going in on Monday for a full service, cam belt, matrix flush, SMIC fitting, FCD fitting and I so far have had superb service, I have a courtesy car made available for the duration of the service, Matt has paid cash far a part that a member has delivered to him on my behalf and has kept me informed all along, I wish him well in this new venture
I look forward to a RR day also, will get the black car ready for this :eyebrows:
I had mine done last week weds....Nice to finally meet you matt!
Had a full service, springs changed over (as my front bumper was hitting everything) and the car checked over as I do far too many miles between services and oil changes :(
Matt was very professional, the site is coming along really well, and its great to have a supra specialist just round the corner! The car hasnt driven this good in ages - oh and I can park it on my drive again now! :)
Good luck matt...i'll be coming for a spin in your supra next time its dry, that'll tempt me to go bpu at least! :)
THANKS!

Where possible I give prices to customers and then do my best to keep to them. Hourly rate is kind of irrelevant if you're taking the p*** with the number of hours !
However, this job is not one I would be prepared to give a price on, it could well be a royal pita.
We always do our best to keep prices down and will only charge for time spent :)

i know it is hense why i dont wanna do it:d
can you give a rough i.e ex to ex amount
SupraDibbs.. The last one we did (which was a while ago) was a PITA as Muffleman says.. I probably spent a few days on it.. So ide say if you were quoted £1K @50ph for labour, you wouldnt be too far off... It takes ages.. :( and once done itll need to be set back up again.
For the money ide go with Brand new OEM arms as you get better bushes and new ball joints! The Poly bushes are usually hard and dry out, then they squeak! aaahhhh!
Dont mean to step on any toes Muffleman :)

just a little write up about my AFR experience!
An age ago I started a single conversion on my supra, please see http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=95108&page=10
The build was with its problems, many beyond my understanding of tuning! I had been to a couple of big name tuners and tbh wasn't impressed with the service. All I wanted was honesty but ended up getting half jobs done all the time, the car being botched up and the real issues masked.
Just before Matt started AFR he came and had a look at my motor and quickly realised some of the issues.
Once AFR opened my car was one of the first in. A complete breath of fresh air! All phone calls/pms/messages responded to in great time, regular updates and best of all the problems were fixed. Matt was willing to spend time on my car to get it right and has shown himself to be a real perfectionist. I truly wish Matt had opened about 2 years ago! I would recommend AFR to everyone.
I'm not writing this for any other reason other than to say thank you ;)
best of luck for the future

I second that. Had my brakes and a few bits done today by afr. So pleased with the friendly service. Matt is a great honest guy. Pleasure doing business with you mate. Look forward to seeing the GTR all completed. Highly recommended! :)
