My rear lights have stopped working, were working this morning, were not working this evening :S My headlights come on fine, but my sidelights do not, the rear fog light works, the rear brake lights work and the reverse and indicator lights all work, and idea where I should go hunting for a problem/ big job in a garage?

I had a very similar intermittent problem on my Escort. It turned out to be a dodgy switch on the stalk.

This was suggested to me today, should there be a clicking noise when its switching as i dont have one?

if it was a fuse surely it wouldn't be so intermittent, as sometimes it works, other times not?

I don't know much about car electrics, but unless there is indeed a loose connection it shoud either work or not work (i.e. once a fuse has blown it won't work again without replacement).

When I switch my lights on there is a clicking noise, identical to when I switch my rear wiper on - I'd check this next.

Ill have a look at it properly on Saturday.

Does anyone else have two rear fog lights though, when I switch my rear fogs on they work, and theres two of them?

I only have one rear for, and had an intermittent fault on my front indicator. It's working ok at the moment thought.

Tail lights are on the same circuit as side lights. (For obvious reasons when you think about it)

I would check the connection at the fuse - not for a broken fuse, but to check that the connection at the box is good and there are no signs of any carbon build up on the ends of the fuse which would indicate that the connection has been weak and arcing.

Other than that I'd also check the connector under the steering column, just down from the steering wheel - it's where the stalks wiring connects into a wide comb-like connector. Just make sure that's all tight. (You'll have to remove the column shroud to get at this but it's only 2 or 3 screws.

Good luck.
