Have you asked the people doing the graduation event?

I've never been to one but I'm guessing:

1. Arrive and sit down
2. Listen to generic speech
3. Get called up to front individually to receive rolled up piece of paper while wearing silly outfit
4. Sit back down and endure lots of other people getting rolled up paper
5. Additional generic speech with clapping
6. Go to pub

Maybe?

Dressing up in a stupid costume, being bored, watching an endless procession of other people walking across a stage, before you get up yourself shake a blokes hand, get a piece of paper, then drink copiously.

edit: so really just concurring with Michael!

Got in a bit of a mess but eventually made it home all OK

I now officialy have my BS.c Honours Degree in Architectural Design

Just a bit of advice - have a few beers hehe - youll get bored to death with speeches from the principale and president, might have to honour a few honourary fellowships. then they call you up name by name and you go and shake the hands of the principale and get a nod of the president.

then youll have some pics, champaign and go out for one hell of a pissup :)

ENJOY fella - its YOUR DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nail. Head. Hit.

The generic speech at mine went on about how the uni will improve over the next few years. Like we honestly cared!

So true. All for 10 seconds in the limelight as the Dean of the uni asks you "What are you going to do with your new qualification?"

I only had a few seconds to reply, so after thinking about the unsolved mysteries of the universe, the solution fuel for when natural gas and oil reserves have run out and the ways of slowly harmonising people towards world peace, I went for "something that lets me drive a car like yours". He had a 911 Turbo :d

PS...Ady, you should definitely invite your sister to a pancake run at some point :d

It's SO boring. In fact I've tried to block it out so my memory is a bit vague. I remember having to wear stupid outfit. I remember queueing for hours to have photos taken by a weird man, and then pay for copies of the worst photos of me ever taken. Then we went to the pub for a while. Then we queued up on one side of the stage and then walked across it, got a bit of paper and walked off the other side, while the audience clapped in a "I'm so bored, why did I come?" fashion.

Oh then of course dealing with my mum and sister all day... Q fake smile!

I've done it twice now. It's for your parents really.
It might not feel like it now as all your mates are doing it, but it is a moment to be very proud of yourself for.

No need to worry mate. Sit there for a while untillit your classes turn then all go up together to recive your scroll then sit down again. That simple. Mine was crap because I was in hospital when my official one was given out. So they invited me to go the following year to graduate with that years class. It was pretty horrible as I knew no one:( Still a good piss up afterwards was had so I suppose it wasn't too bad:D

Congrats mate, you'll have a good day:)

Mine was just as described many a time in this thread. I really wasn't bothered about it and probably wouldn't bother turning up if I got another degree - total yawnfest.

To be fair as already said, I think it is more for proud parents etc. I had three elder brothers already graduate, my University was at the other end of the country, I wasn't @rsed, and neither were my parents.

Totally worth going to the p!ss up afterwards though - wasn't that the reason for further education anyway? ;)

Cheers guys, i will just see how it pans out, and i agree, DEFINATELY get your sister to come Ady. You owe me a favour for sorting you those gauges cheap so maybe her number would be a good way to say thankyou?? ;);)

Well the graqduation went great. It was a pretty good day all round to be honest and didnt drag on too much. Felt really good going up and accepting certificates off the dean but looked a complete plonk in the hat and gown :(

Will post some pics up later on when the missus has been to get them printed off the digital camera.

Michael was pretty much there, aside from;
[+] Wait while 1000 other people have their name read out and collect their slip of paper
[+] Queue for aaaages to get comedy costume for the day
[+] Queue for aaaages to return the days comedy costume
[+] Try to find a parking space amongst the 1000 other people that have turned up

Make sure you have a friend turn up with a powerful portable music player, so at the right moment they can play your favourite 'triumphant' music (i.e. FFVII battle win, PPG going into action, the good NIN bit from 300).

PS - Congratulations!

God it is boring isn't it. Had mine last year. I was due to stay overnight with uni mates but in the end decided to call that part of my life a day and headed back home to get shedded instead.
