First of all hello everyone, ive finally managed to to talk the other half into letting me get a supra Been tryin to learn as much as possible about them from this site (which is excellent and very helpfull). Im coming over from the ford scene so dont know all that much about jap cars. Looking for a 6 speed turbo just have a couple of questions. What makes the uk spec bigger bhp than the jap import? is it mechanical or to do with ecu etc. Also if I bought a standard power car how easy/expensive is would it be to get around 400 bhp. Ive been reading about bpu (basic power upgrade?) and seen some powerfull cars with not much else done. Sorry for all the questions but ive been toying with the idea of an escort cosworth and know alot more about them. Cheers

Hi mate and welcome

I got my self a TT about 4 months ago - you wont regret it!

It was nearly stock when i got her, and im looking for 400 bhp. going to start off with bpu and take it from there. dosent involve too much cost either, as i was fortunate in having some of the bpu already done for me.

Hi Add welcome to the club

The UK spec and J-spec Supras are around the same hp, the J-spec is only quoted as being 280hp as there use to be an agreement between Japanese car manufacturers to keep this as the limit.

See here for differences between the different models.

380-400hp is relatively easy and inexpensive to achieve, have a read of here - BPU
