Scoboblio
Good afternoon all. Spent this morning refurbing my starter motor contacts, which thanks to Supraloopy's FAQ worked like a charm Unfortunately I also spotted a small cut in one of my front tyre's rim protector (about 1.5cm across and about 2mm deep), as well as a very small chunk missing from the sidewall where I've hit a kerb . Obviously I'm going to get both fronts replaced, but with this damage would you rate it as safe to drive to a tyre centre (say about 20 mins away with a bit of dual carriageway driving)? It's only really the rim protector bit of the tyre that's got a cut.
Mr. Fish
if it is not through to the cord on the sidewall it is still legal to use but i would get it changed.....
mathew
i got sent 2 new falkens today after odering one yesterday. took my punctured front tyre to get changed and they plugged the hole. they assured me itl be fine. so i now have 2 spare falkens
JustGav
If the sidewall has been damaged, you will risk a blister forming on the tyre resulting in a blowout... Not worth the risk IMHO
Scoboblio
Thanks for the comments. Here's a couple of pics of the damage; Looks like it's 2 new front tyres then, on a day I've spent a lot of time and effort trying to save money

juanchan
I ran a front tyre with worse rim protector damage than that for about 6000 miles! They were fine Oh, and they were a budget make too.

Kranz
I had the same & stuck Loctite 5900 or 5910 RTV (like silicone sealant, but without silicone) in the cut. Worked a treat Edit - I've actually used this stuff to repair broken rubber engine mounts & virtually build my Westfield. Its REALLY good at bonding stuff and resists everything... and it makes gaskets too This is very similar but blue http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOCTITE-INSTANT-GASKET-BLUE-FLANGE-SEALANT-40ML_W0QQitemZ260184834657QQihZ016QQcategoryZ28641QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
