Some of you may remember my laptop broke about a month ago. It was the graphics card that had over heated and a replacement was going to cost more than £400. After a couple of weeks of looking around I realised I could renew my Dell warranty for £180 and they would then repair my laptop free of charge.
So I pay my money, and then spend a week emailing their technical support so they could get me to do tests so they could identify the problem. They finally concluded it was the graphics card, but they had none in stock so and it took a week before they had any.
So the engineer arrives yesterday and finally fixes my laptop - it's like new now. I've not had a chance to properly use it yet but tonight I was going to finally get WoW back up and running and have some fun.
That was the plan anyway, a good plan I thought except that I hadn't taken into account the possibility that Tigger, in the mean time, might decided to pour a pint glass of Ribena over it whilst it was turned on!
Apparently the laptop, which only had a £400 repair done to it yesterday after 4 week without it, is now dead.

So Tigger is now for sale!

Take all the batteries and stuff out... get yourself down to maplins and get some electrical cleaner, you have nothing to loose really... keyboard maybe the hard part...

House insurance..?Thankfully yes. They are collecting it this week to either repair or replace. A shame I now have a 3 year warranty that will be worthless if they replace the laptop. :(

Most electrical things will survive a complete soaking so long as they are powered off completely as quick as possible, rinsed out where possible and then dried our thoroughly. For a laptop I would have said take everything out that you can, take the case apart and leave it to dry for at least a week. Its always electricity and water together that kills them.

Well my new laptop finally arrived.
It has a bigger hard drive
It has twice the memory
It has a new/faster graphics card
It has a slightly slower processor but a much newer one which has twice the cache
But it's missing Ribena!
So overall I'm pleased I paid an extra £39 for accidental contents damage cover on my house insurance. :)
In fact the only bad bit was it had Vista home installed. After it failed to connect to my wireless network using its own drivers and then the proper drivers for the wireless card failed to install due to "not enough memory", I binned it off and put XP on.
Tigger is still for sale though. Buy now, just in time for unwrapping at Christmas. :)

Hmm sounds like it'd also be more hassle with the upgrades, how much extra? £10.75?
