Alternator Killer?

A few years back my alternator gave up the ghost but I got it reconditioned and everything was back to normal... until last week when it died on me again - usual 4 lights on and the "!" light. Meter on the alternator terminals and no reading - battery was OK though.

Well, a mechanic (term used loosely...) took the car away and "apparently" fitted another 2nd hand alternator which "apparently" immediately died and reckoned that there was a serious electrical problem.... would any of you superb technical people out there agree that this is in fact possible (and can suggest where to start looking :search: ) or that he is talking out of his ar*e? :blahblah:

And how the kin hell are your supposed to replace the alternator fuse?

Cheers for any help in this matter :)
