i personally have never been convinced by the ability to displace a suitable amount of air at 8 inches, which is what its really all about when it comes to subwoofers.

you will probably find that its far easier to get hold of 10 inches (lol) as their is a much greater market for them as opposed to 8 inch, which probably speaks for itself.

Just do what I do, and have both :)

But you will be suprised how much bass decent 8" subs can produce, its all about how they are boxed and set up. I tell all my customers that the style of music you listen to also helps when it comes to adding subs, faster music = smaller faster moving subs (8",10"), slower music = larger slower moving subs (12",15")

I prefer the sound of 10's personally.

I like the sound of 2 8" subs. if you get the right matched pair they can be much more versatile.

trouble is i listen to a very wide range of tunes, was just thinking that a pair might look better than a single and would cut down on the double curves on the front of the box, i've got a 10 and amp sitting here so i guess ill go that way
dont want to do a pair of tens the boots small enough already
right off to get some ply in then,

I put a pair of 10's in my boot, granted it takes up alot of space but they sound very nice :) I did want 2 12's but when I mesured things up it wasnt quite going to work as I wanted some boot space left for some shopping. Have a look in my garage if your interested

Depending on the stroke an 8" sub could displace more air than a 10".

Thank's :) I think it's possible to install 2 8" subs where the rear speakers sit. They are obviously not a direct fit (it would have to be a custom job) I think Flyangus on here done that with his soop but Iv not seen it yet.

I mounted two 12" Alpine R-type subs in my spare wheel well and kept my whole boot space and gained a proper boot floor.
Sounds great.

would the trouble with replacing stock rear postions with subs not be the inclosures ?
heard the aerotops had some kind of pod there instead of the metal brackets i got im mine, ill get me ply in and get the jigsaw and router out and see what develops

surely this wouldnt work though? to generate a certain frequency of sound the magnet has to move according to the a/c current passed to it, so realistically the frequencies a speaker will output in a set song would be no different at all, just that the larger speaker will displace more air by virtue of its size?

Why would you want to spoil your car interior by putting 8" subs in the rear panels?????

and if you want to have a quality sound when listening to all kinds of music then just get a good head unit with a built in graphic equaliser or fit a separate one.

I have 2 * 12's in the boot and I can still get my spare wheel out without having to dismantal anything, and believe me there is no point going to all that trouble to install an 8" sub when you can just get some good quality door speakers powered with an amp, which will have a smiliar outcome.

I can still put another 2 x 6" x 9"s or 2 * 8" speakers in the boot and still have plenty of space.

I think it's to do with how far the face of the sub travels. If you have an 8" sub with an excursion of 2" and a 10" sub with an excursion of 1" then theoretically the 8" sub will move more air than the 10".

i don't want to put 8" in the rear pods, it was sujested it had been done,
the head unit i have is plenty good enough has 3 pre outs, all sorts of sub settings, and allows you to shut the bass off main 4 as to allow the sub to do all the work. more settings than you could ever need id say :) well got the base cut today so made a start anyway

well all sorted, sounding 10 million times better, but now showing up the rest of the speakers not surprising really as fronts are standards as far as i can tell and some jbl cheapys in the rear, head unit has all the xovers built in so taking all the bass of the 4 mains helps alot but need to upgrade them now,

single 10 offers a more versitle sound for different types of music , wouldnt recommend having both 8s and tens as the frequency responce will differ and on sertain tracks you will notice and it will sound pants, high quality single 10 all day.
