http://www.mkivsupra.net/images/proalloys.jpg (http://www.pro-alloys.co.uk)

The next Stock Turbo Owners Bunfight is on Sunday 6th April 2003.

Its sponsored by Ibrar from Pro-Alloys (big link above...) so everybody please pay his site a visit as Pro-Alloys are providing the trophy for the fastest stock based Supra on the day.

The place opens at 8am, sign-on starts at 9.30am and racing starts at 10am (not sharp...). Its 9 per person to get in, and 15 for unlimited runs. Drivers Licence is required if you plan on doing any runs, no licence no runs. The event goes on until about 5pm but you can leave anytime you want.

If the track is wet they stop racing, if its raining and it doesnt look like stopping they halt the whole event and give you a ticket for the next one. If its really chucking it down and doesnt look like every stopping they wont even take signons.

Theres a cafe on site, as well as the death defying toilet block.

I think thats covered everything.

The rules stand as before

This event is for supras running stock based turbos (stock turbos and hybrids).

There are 2 trophies available, one for the fastest 1/4 mile time run by a stock based car at pod, and one for the fastest car on the day. Barry's car currently holds the fastest 1/4 mile time at Pod with a 12.9 at 113mph.

The rules are simple, the car should be run in the sort of condition that you would nip down the shops in. These are the specific rules

stock based turbos (hybrids or stock, true twin conversion allowed as we have never actually seen it help )
standard street tyres (no slicks, no drag radials)
no Nitrous or other performance enhancing gas
any fuel is allowed (the spirit of the event is to use pump fuel)
no stripped out interiors (you can take your ice out, but if the rear seats were removed for the ice they must go back in)
what ever tyre pressures your want
headlamps must still be in
spare wheel and brace can be removed if you are happy reducing weight in the rear of the car (less grip)
no crash helmet required, no roll cage required
road insurance will not cover you but the chances of damaging the car are minimal

I want people to run their cars in the spirit of the event, it is intended for people who have stock based cars, who use them as normal cars. I dont want to see people pulling out seats, door cards and aircon units to try and win. Aftermarket ECUs are allowed, as are cams, boost controllers, FMICs and water injection. If you think your car might have something on it that would rule it out then email me to confirm. Its a question of what I can see and what I cant see. I can easily see if somebody has stripped out their interior, but theres no chance of seeing an aftermarket ECU or cams.

The event is sponsored by Ibrar at Pro Alloys who will provide the small trophy for the fastest on the day.

Its also a FREE competition so I expect everybody to get in to the spirit of what we are trying to do and not to try and beat the rules.

NB: Don't forget your driving licence! Seat belt is mandatory! Helmets required for RWYB bikes and open top cars and vehicles doing 100 mph or more at the finish line.

I KNOW they didn't enforce it last time (nor when Dom and I
went last time !), but strictly speaking, that means US ! !:conf:

I took one both times, and both times just had it as extra
'rear-traction' material....:p

[they WERE very strict about the 'belts', AND doing your windows up !]

John, just out of interest.. I know santa pod requires a UK licence etc.. but does it matter if you have bans/convictions/points etc?

Ah a plan Pod every week for RWYB:D

Alex
11-03-03, 21:31
I should hope I'll be there...newish rubber too which might help...though it'll probably do nowt for my 60ft and just hinder my topspeed.

I only did one run last time...when my rear brake was siezed ON! might have accidentally lost that timing slip. Wheelspinning nigh on right through the 1/4 was "interesting" last time...

If the track is good and the weather cool yet sunny we could be in for some decent trap speeds....

They don't look very close, unless it has banned stamped across the first page I doubt they would notice.

Bobbeh
11-03-03, 21:40
Yeah, it'll probably just have a code, and maybe a date, but Im not banned from private roads, just public ones, so I could still make it there as a passenger.

Might come along and have a go anyway.

Branners
11-03-03, 21:43
they are fairly lax with registrations, you should be able to present your licence as it is, if not then if your signature is very similar to your brothers one (and he's not racing) then they have been known to make a mistake :)

Is it worth going if you have only the basic mods... wonder what mine would run at given my limited mods... hell I guess someone has to come last right....!

If DUDERSVR isn't hanging my new bodykit on I may be there.

Where and when and how much?

Cheers

Scooter
27-03-03, 17:24
I reckon its well worth it, I'll be there and I've got a completely standard, lardy UK spec, so you shouldn't be last, in fact I'd be quite up for a duel to see what your basic mods can do, compared to my more youthful (cough) reactions:D

Steve W
27-03-03, 19:00
MID'.....

YES, if it's the slightest bit SLIPPY, ANYBODY has a chance ! !

I won last time out with one of the LEAST powerful there.

Matt's car is a 'fair' bit more tuned than mine BUT because I had
about as much 'power' as the track could cope with.............:D

IF it's bone dry/major grip then I'd guess Matt & Co. will have
a more distinct advantage.
BUT, I HAVE A BIG WATERING CAN ! ! ! !

Then again, I SHOULD have miles more power than "Supra Pilot",
and his times were right on mine - he outdragged me away from
the lights EVERY TIME, it was only TWO TURBOS that pulled it back,
ie, driver skill DOES come into it (S'P' has an N/A ! ! ! )

FatS.

Matt Harwood
27-03-03, 19:08
Driver skill has a lot to do with it... More so on slippery surfaces... That's why I'm so bad!

Dom, did you read the Steves post?!?! "Red rag to a bull" springs to mind :D

ANYWAY, I meant that as a COMPLIMENT ! !

His PODDING skills are obviously far superior to mine ! !

I really DO think he has a brilliant 'feel' for clutch/throttle
feed-in.....

LOL, I beat him by 0.015 seconds last time... Hardly anything to boast about, but we beat him and that's what matters...

It's all just banter to get a bit of healthy competition, on the day everyone's too busy chatting / racing. Its only post the event that it all starts again on the forum. BTW i'm the right side of 30 (just) and my car should be running at standard boost (0.8 Bar????)

A week sunday, Santa Pod (Northampton way, normally a convoy is organised nearer the time) and cost about 10ish to get in/spectate and 13ish to run from memory..... but you know what they can be like as you get older.....next thing you know I'll be repeating myself:D

Im thinking about running the Bun Fight until 4pm only, fastest times up to then will count. Primarily because lots of people go at about 4pm and also because I want to get back home to watch the Brazillian GP.

Anybody got a problem with this? It means we dont have to hang around until 5.30pm waiting for the last times to come in.

Assuming Ibrars car will be there (will it?) then we meet at his car for 4pm with timing slips and we see who has the best and they get a nice trophy.

Couple of the others still have Cat's IN. ie. BOG standard.

NO you won't look 'out of place' (I thought that myself)

Don't even HAVE to run !? but good to watch the others !
(and all the silly-boy-cars of course)

It's a lot more civilised than I thought before I went the 1st time !
(the Soop lot are probably some of the MOST controlled lot there
- believe it or not ! !)

You can even JUST run against one of 'OUR' lot - you don't have to
run against anyone/anything you don't want to !

Great day out apart from the weather, good to see you all again.

Only managed 2 runs, the first was ok, the second better but my start could only be described as f**kin *******! but managed 14.15 @ 104.38.

Ive got film of myself and a few others, scooter (i think) and the other white uk spec, adam_sg and a red soop with bonet vents against a black soop.

As soon as ive made them a reasonable size ill put them up on the web somewhere and post a link.

I managed 13.597 @111mph I believe (IanC has the slip) in my one and only run.

Well done Matt.

It seems strange that on a surface where traction was at a premium, someone said that RLTC might not have been a good idea.

Angie had a good run at the start of the day hitting the 1/4 mile in 13.244 secs at 111.8mph.

The car is a J-Spec TT. The only mod other than RLTC is a full de-cat. (Yes, Dom....the bit*h did it again!!! At least Matt beat her this time!)

Her full timing sheet as follows:

60ft 2.396secs
330ft 5.977secs
1/8mile 8.798secs@86.91mph
3/16 11.154secs
1/4 13.244@111.8mph

My best was 13.564:( :( :(

It seemed that RLTC was invaluable today.

My best was 14.1.

I only got 2 proper runs in, then on the 3rd (last) I picked up some
of that bleach (?) or whatever the ba**ards layed down for the
Dragsters at the 'Bridge'.

THEREFOR: I got my first and ONLY wheelspinning of the day ! !

AND I'd forgot to switch the TRAC off ! !

RESULT = as soon as the wheels spun (~50ftish) the bloody thing
cut-in and BBBLLUUURRRR.

On the first 2 runs the surface was absolutely fine ! ? !

Blimey, me' dad's first run EVER was 14.3 ! ! and HE never got any
wheelspin either (his 2nd run was 14.2.... so he's NOT comin' again !:sly: )

Perhaps this'll get moved to a different thread but for now here goes:

First of all, nice to meet a few new people today. Nice time Angie, I think I'll employ you as my driver next time.

What would you guys call a good reaction time?
Somebody running against me today did 0.671. Is there a value below which it records a false start?
I feel that improvements in this area would significantly reduce my time more easily (and cheaply) than power modifications.

I did manage a good 60ft time whilst running against Matt H but after this he just breezed on by. I have not yet installed my RLTC, and by looking at my times it suggests that a fair degree of throttle restraint is required up to and beyond 330ft so perhaps it would have helped slightly.

For the record here is my best run (including reaction time)
Reaction 1.063
60ft 2.271
330ft 6.027
1/8 8.898
1/8mph 85.48
3/16 11.299
1/4 13.430
1/4mph 109.37

If only I could get my reaction time down to 0.010 secs...........

Excellent day today, nice to meet some new faces and good to see all the familier ones!

I've got a big :D for getting the trophy, (and JB, I AM suprised!).

I haven't got my timing slips to hand, but my two best times were 13.04 and 13.06. Best terminal speed was 115.85. They're the only ones I remember...

It was soooooo much better for traction today. We actually had some. My RLTC didn't really cut in much. I had it set to 15% virtually all day.

Robbie, you were so near it's unreal.

Adam W
07-04-03, 08:41
The minimum reaction time isn't 0.0 seconds, but it depends on which tree they use. I think they use the sportsman tree at RWYB days, which IIRC means a perfect start would be a 0.600. I used to know but I've forgotten!

Ian C
07-04-03, 09:18
I had a reasonably disasterous day, being 'owned' (thanks Doug) by almost everyone due to an inability to get any grip below 3rd gear. Best was a 13.8 @ 115mph, up against Angie, where I also hit 7090rpm in 4th! The red mist had descended....

Can I just say that Darren Blake, after giving me lots of abuse in the morning for my apparent lack of ability to find second gear every now and again, started in the wrong gear on the drag strip - an impressive feat with an autobox :p :D

It was great meeting a bunch of Supra bods off this BBS, but personally, a 6:30am start, a 250mile round trip, Over twenty quid entry fees and hours queueing in godawful weather for about 1min15s of actual racing on a road with less grip than any set of traffic lights around Norwich isn't my idea of a good return on investment, so I probably won't go again :(

Getting beat by Doug, Scooter, Brian, Angie, and Alex sucked too :p

-Ian

PS I raced Angie in a black car, I hope that's me on the vid clip someone mentioned, it was my best run and it was pretty close!

Bobbeh
07-04-03, 09:40
Hehe, sorry to hear that Ian :p

I've always noticed it gets much better towards the end of the day. The track improves and the traffic dies down a bit. SHame about the weather and I can understand your gripes.. you sometimes cant get much racing in a whole day.

Last time I went my buddy got 5 runs, and he took a couple of hours off for a break. So it can be fun. ;)

Scooter, out of interest, how did you and you're car get on.. its gotta be better than my 15.7 back in Janurary! :)

It was in MANU mode, Ian! Anyway, I still kicked your ass all the way up to 60 feet. :baa:

Even speaking from the NA driver's perspective - it was a brilliant day. Real shame about the weather and the queueing but it was great to meet you all. It was a really nice atmosphere (even if it was bloody freezing!)

Being a Pod virgin, I was happy not to come in at over 20 seconds (even on my "wrong gear" run). Just for the sake of interest, this is the timesheet for my best run. Remember this is a stock NA automatic.

Reaction:--1.496
60ft:--------2.527
330ft:------6.975
1/8:---------10.547 (70.21mph)
3/16:-------13.471
1/4:---------16.175 (87.49mph)

By the end of the day I was so keyed up that I blew my last run (against a fiesta with gansta tints) with a false start. I was still buzzing more than an Ann Summers sales rep when I got home. :D :D :D

Mark D...

I THINK I'm right in saying the Reaction Time is listed
seperately and NOT INCLUDED in the ELAPSED TIME ! ! !

It doesn't matter what reaction time you get, the "1/4 ET"
is the time it takes for the car to go point-to-point as it were.

It's done that way so you can see easily the 2 times seperately.

If you look at the bottom of the page it says "1st Finish" under
the car which actually 'crossed the line' first....that's the RACE
WINNER..... if you like ? !

IF it wasn't done that way, and MY Reaction Time was INCLUDED
in my ET, then on 1 run (ET=14.080, RT=1.349) I actually had a
'run' time of 12.731 ! ! ! I DON'T THINK SO ! !

Not sure if it's done the 'other' way for 'proper' Draggin' ? ?

FatS.

[ DOM... lookin' back at the OLD slips from our trips up there
THAT makes sense 'cos there are 2 runs where YOU had
'1st Finish' but I had lower ET1/4 times....ie. YOU had better
Reaction Times, but I had better ET...YOU actually went through
the lights FIRST....NOW, in a real 'DRAG' surely YOU would WIN !?
so they MUST include the Reaction Time in REAL Draggin' ! ! ]
