Will ask lots and lots of questions in the coming months, as I begin my search.

Will be coming from a 2003 BMW Coupe - I am tired of loosing shedloads of money due to depreciation.

I wonder if I can get a 'unbiased answer' - how does the Supra compare to the 300ZX?

i like the 300 but its less reliable, slower, harder to tune and work on and seems to drop in value quicker.

but i am biased;)

My car is a 320Ci. Wife drives a 2002 320D. I am yet to change - have been thinking of getting rid of one of the beemers for the last month or so.

It has been really difficult to make the decesion. I have a friend who is mad on Alfas. He almost convinced me to go for an Alfa. So, I have spent a good three weeks learning all the pros and cons on 156s, GTAs, etc. But the unreliability is too much of a worry.

Then, someone suggested a FTO. Spent another week or so, looking at them.

Now, the flirtation with Supra's and ZXs.

You all must think, I am mad or something.

Thanks for the heads up on the ZX problems. Nissan's in general (or all Japaneese cars as a whole) are not, unreliable, are they? I somehow didn't expect them to be bad, since Skylines seem to very easily tunable (and reliable?)- or is that not the case?

I don't do too many miles - so the petrol costs shouldn't hurt me much. In any case, I am unlikely to loose £1500+ a year on depreciation, even if the car sits on our driveway, as it is the case with our present cars.

Is 25mpg achievable in normal driving in a non-turbo, manual, car? I just can't imagine buying an auto.

I'd say yes it's achievable in a n/a supra doubt you'd be able to do that in a tt though. If you go for an n/a get a newer one with the 6 speed box incase you decide to put a tt lump in

Is the Supra usable as a everyday car? My commute is about 12 miles each way. Mixture of fast A roads/M ways. No city traffic.

Is 20mpg about the norm? [don't want to drive like a hermit day in day out]

I am 35. 3 points. I pay £300 for the beemer. What is a rough estimate for a n/a supra?

Getting these serviced is a specialised job? Who are the specialists in the East Midlands?

I'd say an n/a was an everyday car a TT costs a LOT to run especially in petrol, I work and live in London but often come back to leicester at weekends and I can spend up to £180 on petrol in 2 days

I would say 20mpg is about right if you're heavy footed in an n/a

You'd probably pay something similar for insurance.

Just change the oil, filter, gearbox oil every 3000 miles and you'll be fine this forum holds a mass of knowledge in both members and FAQ's/guides it should have everything you need to service the car yourself.

You should be OK, I commute 110 miles a day in a 500+bhp Single turbo Supe

Really 25+ mpg? Excellent, then there is absolutely no worries on the fuel consumption side.

I get tired with a specific car rather quickly (hence my original reference to loosing a lot of money through depreciation - I lost £1800 in four months on a TT!), hence my desire to not to spend too much.

My rationale was that, if I spend say £4k on a car, I could perhaps sell it on for, say £3k after a year or so? Sounds doable?
