Great start to the day!!! doh...

On the way into london this morning there was roadside checks on the passing traffic, to be honest i don't mind this as i am sure lots of the people can't have insurance or a licence etc and it gets them off the road!
Wasn't too surprised when they waved me over as it seems they were checkiing almost everyone..
Anyway, first thing said was your nnumber plate is to small..
Which to be fair is quite small but according to the place where i bought it and to the dvla, it is road leagal!!, it even carrys the BSAU145d std mark in the corner which is for imported car leagal plate conformaty (is that a word?)..
So anyone know where I stand... i have contacted the company who i got the plate from to see what they say..
ALSO
on the ticket (for £30, no points) not only have they got my name wrong they have also put my date of birth in the date of offence box..
(so accordinig to that this morning was nearly 30 years ago)

What is the best corse of action..

I am sort of happy to pay the fine to save going to court just to get it out the way, but i am troubled that the police wouldn't even look into the legallity of the plate and the ticket details are so wrong..

any ideas

Import size is slightly smaller, you will get them off the DVLC site.

Ian there is a guide on the DVLA website mate. Print it off and poke it up their bum! Its definiately legal :)

Cheers Alan,
But as far as i know, it is fully leagal, for all sizes.. text, spacing and border...
I just don't know why it was just dismissed because it "looked small" even though it has the standard code on it that could have been checked..

I am tempted to just pay the fine, but why should I, i am sure its legal..
but to take it to court is a waste of time, and money for both me and the police..(especially when the details on the ticket are wrong on their behalf)..

just go into your local station... with plates and relevant documentation off the dvla site.... and show them the errors of their ways!

:yeahthat:

If you are feeling fruity you can always ask to speek to the copper that issued the ticket :)

I believe if they have the date of offense filled in as 30 years ago then they don't really have a leg to stand on. Tell them to stick it. If you end up in court claim for your days pay off them.

I know pepipoo is primarily about speeding, but they might have advice on this too? I'm pretty sure, as Ian says, that if the date of the offence has been filled in to be 30 years ago, they've stuffed up and it doesn't stand. Same about your name being wrong.

Don't pay it, for goodness sake!

Did they get you to sign the fixed penalty? As both sides need to check and sign. But as you may have never seen one before it wont be crystal until later but they should know better. If you take it to a station they wont be able to take the penalty back only the court can.

I'd have a bit of fun with it to be, mention the car has no flux capacitor and is unable to to do time travel. The fun would be endless, in fact I'm wishing I had that ticket just to wind someone up.

They have the opportunity to correct any errors at the court hearing. It happened to me a few years ago on a speeding offence. They had the wrong date and the wrong location but were allowed to change it at the hearing. I was duly found guilty :(

well that sucks! if we change any errors, it's 'changing our story' or 'changing evidence!' lol
