Which clutch do you run on your single Supra?

I have found myself in the unfortunate position where i may possibly have to change my clutch.

 

Looking for opinions on a clutch to handle around 600 bhp, i will also want to do some trackdays, and possibly one or two drag launches (totb etc)

 

Currently looking at

 

RPS

Exedy

Southbend

OS Giken

 

Also looking at possibly lightened flywheel too, again, not sure which.

 

The poll is just to get an idea of the popular ones, but post up any opinions too please...

I drive the Centerforce Dual Friction. Its an amazing clutch. Stock pedal pressure, nice smooth engagement, holds over 600bhp with ease, and most people I know got 40 to 60K miles on them before it slipped. I have used RPS, Southbend, etc and I am sticking with my Centerforce. I believe they have a new 6 puck one out, might be worth a look.

Their patented technology thats explained on their web site my give you an insight into why I like this so much. It also doesnt rattle like the southbend, and way out holds any RPS single disc (without giving you leg ache).

I can only recommend the one I've bought, as it's done it's job well for 2 years without complaint - and continued to do so.

 

It's pretty much impossible to vote for a good choice in these sort of polls as the majority are going to vote for whatever they've bought, rather than basing a decision on a broad range of expereince (if you know what I mean).

 

Proprably all specs will work, but I think you need to define you requirements for the clutch (such as pedal pressure, engagement, slippage, etc)

 

 

IMO, Southbend roxorz! :p :D

I have had orc twinplate and hks twinplate and found the rattle unbearable. Hks was the nastier of the two which was a pita to drive daily.

I have had my helix 5 paddle for 2 yrs and it never slips and will take launches even on my single. I also use a fidanza flywheel and only replaced the clutch when i put my single on. The old clutch still had plenty life left.

Heard good things about the OS Giken, doesnt CW recommend them ?

 

I have an HKS triple, upside is works really well on the move and I actually quite like it as I am now used to it. Downsides are you WILL stall it when there's LOTS of people watching or you are in traffic, it's a bit of a switch really so hill starts are unpleasant. Plus they do wear quite quick if you ride them a lot.

 

I wouldn't really recommend the HKS triple, it's very expensive and not really a road clutch.

I don't know, I only fit mine, or Giken, as I don't like doing free clutch changes when some of the others I have used in the past go wrong, judder or won't release cleanly :) My clutch is organic but isn't really up to handling your torque figures. All the Gikens are ceramettalic.

 

You said it "wont release" my Tilton carbon sticks together . lack of use i think. The clutch pedal is sticky until i drive it around the block.

I have run a rps street clutch which lasted all of 5 mins, it couldnt handle the torque.

 

I now have an RPS max (I think) now listed as stage 3 on MVP site. It handles the power fine and was abused at the supra pod day and is still going strong.

 

However I wouldnt recomend it for a daily drive, the pedel pressure needed is too much and its far too on/off for traffic.

I've got the RPS Max series clutch and cyn-r-g lightened flywheel. Still only running it in but tricky to pull away at anything under 2k revs. To pull away smoothly in any revs is also a bitch. Curently it rattles like feck so I'll need to improve the sound system to overcome it!

 

I was well happy with the pedal though, it doesn't need a great amount of pressure and through the gears on 3.5K max revs is smooth.

 

I'll let you know what it's like when the Turbo gets chance to breathe :cool:
