Guest mk47
Just got a few questions about the 6 speed na's please 1) the na 6 speed gearboxses are they definately the v160 set up as found in the tt? 2) do the 6 speed na's come with the same sort of diff as found in a tt? reason I ask is a mate is looking for a supra at the moment and wondering if he were to go tt in future, would it be a straight forward swap ? provided obviously the ecu etc is present? cheers

Guest Nicholas
the n/a 6 speed is the same as the tt mate v160 you might be lucky though and get a v161

Guest Nicholas
whats the difference with a v161? the v161 has shorter gear ratio's compared to the v160 IIRC Gamer had a V161 on his orange supra.

Jezz
I think all 6 speed N/a's had the V161 variant as they are all post 1996 which is when Toyota swapped to the 161. V161's have slightly longer shifters too, around 1.5" IIRC. Diffs are different NA - TT, as with pre facelift cars.
Guest mk47
Jezz what about the situation with turboing a 6 speed na? is the transplant straight forward or do you still need to change the diff etc aswell
Whitesupraboy2
If the gearboxes are the same, then a TT engine will mate fine to the gearbox meaning the rest of the drive train does not NEED to be changed. Reason I put need in caps is im not sure if the Diff used in the NA 6 speeds could take the Power of a TT BPU supra....which is how a TT will end up On plus side as the top speed is lower in the NA, with a TT engine it would have killer accerlaration with the NA Diff

Jezz
Jezz what about the situation with turboing a 6 speed na? is the transplant straight forward or do you still need to change the diff etc aswell We've just done a UK TT and a VVTI TT into our 2 NA 6 speeds. Transplant itself is straight forward, but we kept the NA diffs in for now. Drives nice, just higher revving. 140mph odd top end with an NA diff IIRC.
