I sold my old processor, motherboard and RAM the other day on ebay. All were working perfectly when I removed them from my computer about a couple of months ago and have been sitting in a cupboard since. The buyer received them yesterday and has already left positive feedback, however I've just received an e-mail saying this:

"when board etc arrived i powered it quickly on test bed and it went straight into bios no problems ,started to test tonight and board swirches off constantly after about 90-100 secs , processor & memory are fine but the board itself is knackered, which way do want to proceed with this "

Does that make sense? Why would a board turn itself off? The guys feedback is good but I'm just a bit suss. Could it be a software issue? (I'm not too clued up on this sort of stuff)

doubt very much its software - sounds like it could be something he's done if it worked first then stopped working

i wouldnt worry - think he could be trying to pull a quick one

also, is he testing on a good surface? if its metal then it could be shorting as it heats up.... too many variables here mate, if it worked, maybe it got damaged in transit or he's broken it. he could also be totally genuine of course.....

faulty power supply? try and get some more info from them, has it got as far as windows? If it does then get him to leave it in BIOS setup for 5 mins to see if it still switches off. If it's hardware then there's a good chance it will still shut down.

As said before there are to many things that they could be doing wrong, problem is they could have buggered your MB for you, and youu have no way of proving they did it.
