supraguye
I guys, I have a 98 J-spec TT and I'm in search of a set wheels. Based mostly on the compromise between budget and quality, I have narrowed what I want down to the following: http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?wheelbrand=Tork&wheelmodel=Imagine+%2D+Hyper+Black http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?wheelbrand=Tork&wheelmodel=Matrix+%2D+Hyper+Black I have a few concerns with these which I would appreciate some help in ironing out - Will they clear the front brakes. - Is 9" enough width for the back? If so, should I fit a 265 or 275 tire on there? - How can I estimate how far they will stick out? This is cause I am looking for something which sits almost flush with the body. I know that with things of this nature we can never be 100% accurate, but any help you can give would be greatly appreciated THanks Dudley
SupraGirlie
I like the top ones best. I would of said 9 is fine and 265 or 275 thats your choice, depends how much you want to spend on tyres also? I wouldn't of thought they will stick out at all. supraguye
Thanks SupraGirlie. Sorry, by stick out, I didn't necessarily mean extend outside of the body. I meant whether it would be way in under the fender ..... or outside the body, causing rubbing
Papercutout
get the top wheels, take them to the nearest tyre fitting place and ask them. If they dont/wont fit, get some slightly skinnier tyres fitted, although on a car like this I wouldn't want to run stretch. All fine and dandy on a slammed golf or, but on a sports car... supraguye
ok, maybe if I phrase the question differently.... what offset wheels whould I be looking for ultimately?
hoff
I like the second ones personally. "How far they stick out" I think depends on the offset. Other people on here will know whats required but if you do a search you should find some info:)
hoff
By the way I have 265/30/19 tyres on th my 19" rears and have no problems with rubbing.
Guest Garfy
basically, the smaller the offset the more the wheels will come out, for example, if you have 9" wheels with a 40mm offset now and you buy 9" wheels with a 30mm offset, they will come out 10mm more than the ones you have now. it get trickier when you change the width, for example, if you have 8" wheels now, you will be adding 1/2" to each side before you take the offset into account. Hope that helps
supraguye
Thanks Guys. I also found this offset calculator tool; It's great: http://www.marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html
