How long can a Supra sit unused ?

Hi everyone, I own a Silver 1996 Supra 3.0tt Auto, which I have owned since 1998 when it was imported.

In all that time, it has never let me down once (although it has gone through 3 batteries in that time).

For various reasons has been sitting unused for the last 2 years. It has even been left outside and uncovered - so was a bit green.

On Monday just gone, I decided to get it back on the road.

I got a new battery (its third), installed it, and turned the key.

After a few turns to get some fuel through to the engine IT STARTED !!!. And that was it.

It obviously needs a good service, and I will be getting everything rubber and liquid replaced etc, but I have taken for a very brief spin (after letting it sit running for about an hour). All temps and pressures were OK, as were all levels (including tyres would you believe). It even was up to a nice silver again quite easily.

I know I am preaching to the converted here, but boy can the japanses build cars :)

Anyway, my question is, has anybody else got one that sat around for longer than that, because everyone I know is flabbergasted that it started and ran OK.

More news when its back on the road proper.

I bought a Skyline that had sat unused for 6 years due to a legal case once, and it started on its original fuel and battery, after an overnight trickle charge. I once bought a 1950's British car that sat in Winsford, in a barn, for about 25 years, that needed a battery, but that too started on the fuel still in it. 2 years is just a kip, even after hibernation many things still just fire up :)

Be aware that the quality of the fuel in tank will have degraded a lot over that long.

As you said, change the fluids and belts. Check the tyres very carefully.

The other thing that would maybe concern me is brake piston seals. Can't think of much else that would be a problem.
