Carbon fibre aero roof

Would that help the handling problems associated with the aerotop supras, or is it just for show and 'weight saving'?

It's been years (about 8) since I had a damn good look at an aerotop so I could well be talking bollocks but isn't that just a reskin of the stock item? I only mention it because of the Toyota logo on the interior, but more than happy to be proved wrong.

Bit of an urban myth IMHO - they are not that bad - not sure that anyone would get an aero for serious track work anyway...?

I find the Sparco harness bar works a treat to combat any flexing with the roof off :)

Nah, compared to any flex you'd get at the fixings to the rest of the car, you could have an infinitely stiff roof, but it still wouldn't make any difference.

...or from Nic :)

Oooh. :)

I do know people do criticise the aerotop's handling capabilities, but I know I lose traction before I feel any real 'flex' going on in the car, and I'm using relatively new F1 tyres. Maybe if the car's been set up properly, you shouldn't suffer too much.

Obviously, this hasn't been tested on a track (which I'm not willing to do), but its definitely not that noticeable during any normal 'spirited' driving.

The car feels great even with the roof off and windows down, and the sound... mmm lovely! :)

When the roof is bolted in, Aerotops don't have any more handling problems than the hardtop.

I think I have fair experience in this department as we've had 4 Supras, 2 hardtops and 2 aerotops in the last 6 1/2 years.

Yes, with the roof out, there is a major difference, obviously. But with it bolted in, you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between the two. (If you could tell at all)

bumping this thread up as I have just noticed these on eBay..

Any aero top owners going to buy one? Or does anyone already have one on here? Would be interesting to know if there is any difference and if it is a perfect fit.

I was thinking that maybe a nice 'red' aerotop with a TRD carbon 'blade' spoiler, a carbon bonnet, would really look the business with one of these.

GZAeroJon's car for example ;)

I don't know why I suggested his, but its a very nice show car (when its clean :))

hmm no pics of it fitted to a supra, so id wait for someone to by it, seeing how they get on with fitting the original clips, rubbers and liner etc..hmm bottom is fibreglass, if the bonnets are known to flip up with screws tapped into them holding the bonnet clip, id worry about the roof to..aero roof pins anyone?:D

Is that the same "weight saving" you get with a carbon bonnet? The aero roof is ally skin over a light steel skeleton and very light if you take the liner out.
