need to drive the soop to the garage in the morning so i can get her on the ramp, as i've lost all power steering fluid i'll have to try and top it up for the journey (only 3-4 miles)

my question is will it bugger anything up if i drive with no fluid in the power steering?

Just take a good few liters with you and keep checking it on the way.

how long was the car standing before you noticed the fluid on the floor before?

ah, thought it might have been a few hours.

i still think you'll be fine if it's only a short distance and you fill it up when you leave.

IMO of course.

I certainly wouldn't drive it with no fluid, or in fact even idle it. The PAS pump spins all the time the engine is running and if it's dry, it's unlubricated.

It's bad enough bleeding them. PAS pumps have a particularly unique scream to them in such a state :)

Leave the top off and move it from lock to lock a few times, check level and replace cap
