I am having a bit of a mare with my brakes.

I have just changed from j spec rear to uk spec rears (the front were done a few weeks back and were fine after bleeding !)

I have bled the brakes fully using the old school 2 person method but still the pedal goes all the way to the floor. I then bled all four corners and i am still having this problem.

When you press the pedal down you can hear a faint release type noise, which i can't say i have heard before.

Can anyone suggest whats next to try ?

I though about bleeding the master cylinder, would that be the route to take ?

If so can i confirm the procedure :

>remove brake lines,
>get assistant to depress pedal,
>Block said lines with finger and have assistant release the pedal
>Repeat 3 or 4 times.

Assuming i do that and it is still to the floor is it a case of removing the master cylinder ?

If thats the case then what do i look for on a fubared MC ?

Thank you for your help.

Hi There,

did the master cylinder run dry?

If so you will need to bleed this, then all four corners.

Also look for any leak and make sure that bleed screws are tight.

Thanks

get yourself one of these self bleed tubes thingys from halfords they are about £7 and are basically a one way valve they make everything a doddle, it will allow you to pump away to your hearts content, i find constantly tightening and slackening the bleed nipple is a recipe for disaster

Remove "brake lines"???!!! You are worrying me here :) You only need to open and close a rear nipple, one at a time, to bleed the rear, or any brakes! The lines *MUST* stay connected to all of the rest of the system, including the calipers, at all times!

Block with finger?

I'd have thought the best thing is to tighten the bleed valve, then release pedal?...
When you're sure the air is all out do it again but with the nipple only half open making the pedal firmer to push put still pushing a little fluid out then nipping them up before releasing.
Slowly pressing the pedal is key also, not hard braking.

OK, I have re read your post, my mistake :) Sorry!! You shouldn't need to bleed the master cylinder. You have got both rear calipers on the right sides of the car, with both bleed nipples AT THE TOP, haven't you?

Sorted, it was a slightly loose brake line. The light was fading and i ddin't notice it but in the light of day it was fairly clear to see.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.:)
