View Full Version : Radiator time :( Options?

Hi Guys, noticed the infamous hairline crack in my rad yesterday :( Really small, but still there and is weaping a very small amount. I would describe it as being a 'moist crack' :innocent:

Anyway, its obviosly not going to last much longer so I need to do something about it.

I like the idea of stock replacent, nice fitting, jobs a good 'un. I dont like the idea of the price.

Fluidyne rads are highly spoke of, and if they are the same price as Toyota Jobbies would be the wepon of choice :)

Now, im an auto in need of the extra cooling.

Do Fluidyne do a specific auto rad? Extra seperate tank in the main rad or do you just by one and add an extra tranny cooler?

I hear things about fans, whats that all about then? I did have a fan once upon a time in front of my radiator, but that is for aircon right? Well anyway, that got binned when I fitted my greddy FMIC.

Well the stock one works fine, has lasted you for 11 years... and you know it will fit perfectly. However it's not shiney :D

Fluidyne, Koyo, and also the Power Enterprises ones are all well recommended I believe. I went with the Fluidyne in the end, it's tried and tested. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=83646

I used arildite on my cracked rad - lasted another 5 months before it went in spectacular style. I just stuck another Toyota Rad in, I actually have an Auto rad in my 6 spd. piece of cake to fit.

Doesn't the Koyo require new brackets to fit properly ?
Whereas the fluidyne is oem type fit.

i have the fluidyne in mine, fitted in 15minutes, piece of piss to do, as thorin says, drops stright in,

The fluidyne cooler you'll need for the auto box but again, thats not hard at all to fit

Fluidyne fits lovely - 15 mins is about right :)

Always heard that Koyo was the one to go for as it fit so easily and had decent mounts for the intake 'scoop' thingy.

What cooler did you go for Ric? has anyone gone the fan route or is the choice normally the Extra cooler?

I know CW fitted a Koyo to a members car and it was a bit of a mare to fit apparently, IIRC it's a bit bigger than the Fluidyne and more awkward.

I seem to remember Gaz@Envy saying good things about that Power Enterprises one... but again no idea on fitment. I'd heard people say the Fluidyne fits "like stock" but as I mentioned in the guide I did, the Fluidyne still isn't a perfect fit, but then I'd bet all aftermarket rads are the same.

strange, i found mine to be perfect, bar the air intake duct, which ive just attached and it stays where it should without fixing

All rads from Toyota UK for the twin turbo are now auto style, they just tell you to ignore the pipe stubs for the inbuilt cooler if it's going on a manual. They are also now all exchange, so they want the old core in part / ex, which is odd, as they don't offer a rebuilt rad....

Did you fit it yourself though? I've had people tell me their Fluidyne "fitted perfectly" only to find out that someone else fitted it for them and upon looking at it discovered it's the same as mine. Same goes for the PWR that "fitted perfectly" only to notice that whoever fitted had made their own brackets up to fit it.

They still fit fine, but they're just not "as stock" fitment.

Fluidyne is easier to fit IMHO, Koyo is cheaper.

Daman I have all 3 available, Koyo is on special (£349 with PE rad cap inc delivery), standard Toyota is £329 inc VAT no core charge (Toyota is £311 + VAT, £75 core exchange charge), £425 for a Fluidyne.

I keep the ATF coolers in stock as well if you decide to go aftermarket :)

I use to have a fluidyne rad which I recently swapped for a Power Enterprise double row rad. One of the upper brackets on my old fluidyne didn't fit properly, not sure if this is because of differences between the US and J-spec Supras.

The Power Enterprise rad is quite a bit wider than the fluidyne and looks better made. Having owned both I would recommend the Power Enterprise radiator as my first choice.

We used to retail them for £550 but we can probably do one for around £490, with a 2 week delivery time.
