IMO well sorted (brakes, suspension, diff) 450-550bhp (small, single turbocharger) Supra is a excellent track/fast road weapon. :D

I wouldn't choose a Supra as a track car - I think they are too big and heavy. I definitely wouldn't choose an old school 911 turbo either - rear engined massive turbo lag will kill you - literally.

How about a 968? Would come in under budget. Never tried one but there are club sport versions I think and they are supposed to be good track cars.

Edit - from your list, I'd have the Exige.

Is this going to be your only car or will you have another daily driver to fill in some of the gaps?

I would have said Exige, but the Westfield sounds incredible. Will you be using it on the road much?

Nissan Skyline R32 GTR, perfect for track work.

Do they really go wrong though???

The R32s have a few bottom ends going, but I think the R33 is a pretty reliable car in stock trim...

Skyline GTR?

As expensive as a Supra to track and not half as pretty ;)

One option I'd consider is an early DC5 and then spend the remainder on making it even more track orientated (brakes etc)

After riding with George around the Nurburgring in his Green Supra, I can tell you, the car did very well, regardless of what it weighs. I would build a track Supra, but I think an RX7 would be faster handling wise,... too bad about the reliability issues and PITA to tune.

They're reliable but at the end of the day they're old and old things start to go wrong especially when being hammered on a track. And when they do they can be costly to fix what with the extra bits and pieces of a 4wd.

I've been thinking about this and have thought that you'd prolly get more fun out of a cheaper car on the track like a well setup 200sx etc. If I had a 20k car I'd be petrified about putting it on the track for fear of me stacking it or some other numpty going into me. Just my 2p

What about a 1.3 Mini Metro - I've seen how you drive:p

If 20k is your upper limit why not save a bit more and go for a Noble? Supposed to be amazing track cars and fit for everyday use. £22k-£24k will get you something low miles that looks 100k (IMO).

Good cars when they're running but getting bits for them can be a real nightmare trust me, I used to work there. That money can get you an early 2.5 which as long as it was on the MBE systems engine management and not the Magnetti Morelli would be ok. . I'm not sure how good the after service is these days so if you break it it could be off the road for months waiting for stuff.

always wanted a s1 exige, but dont really fancy a k-series engine, pants.

the s1 seems to hold value as oposed to the s2, not my main issue though.

westfield megabusa has a power to weight ratio of 360hp per tonne in stock trim.

so thats like a 450hp supra

the mini would be fun.

i plan to focus on track days, at the moment i have a company car, although id prefer something that will actually fit in the garage lmao.

all pending on the sale of my supra, but no-one has any money or makes offers. lol

only offer is swap for a r33 gtr
