hey everybody hows it going, obviously new to the forums else I wouldn't be posting here. I know from previous experiences with other forums you probably have a ton of newbies coming in saying they are GOING to buy a supra but undoubtedly fail to, so take this as you will  looking to buy a '93 supra but am doing research on crankwalk before I do. apparently at supraforums they are saying everybody who owns one should expect it which kinda frightens me, so hopefully I can find some answers here that may settle my hesitation.

What the hell is "crankwalk?"

I always thought it was a street in St Helens??

thanks for the welcome guys. By the way from first impressions you guys are much friendlier than those in the US. maybe they just dont like Canadians.

being from the UK I guess you may not be familiar with DSM motors which are notorious for it. Crank walk is basically when the crank shaft has 'play' and is able to slide back and forth more than factory spec. This usually happens with cars that have a pull type cluch rather than a push type.

Most people reporting this issue I have seen have lightened flywheels and clutches with stronger pressure plates than factory.

"Movement of the crank out of stock specifications. All cranks have L to R movement, to some extent, but an excessive lateral crank movement has bad reprocussions, such as hitting/grinding/destroying the crank sensor. A "walking" crank necessitates an engine rebuild. "

Maybe its just because these guys have heavily modified their engines/tranmission and are just not taking care of the cars, Im not really sure. But it sure is nice to hear some supra owners have never even heard the term before :)

Originally from the UK. Central London. moved to canada when I was 8, and go back every summer for a few months to visit family.

While in Canada I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. smack dab in the middle. as far as I know and our provincial insurance agency knows I'm the only mkiv in the city :)
