View Full Version : sky insurance
hi all
we have a section for official traders and members know where to go with queries and they tend to be awnserd be the trader
so why isnt sky insurance on this trader list?
i think they should be
as they are club insurers then surely a members view on how they deal with things day to day would give the member a better perspective on how sky as a company has handled sertain aspects of claims and mods etc.
just thought it would be very usefull is all
alex;)
£'s are needed for a dedicated section I believe.

May I remind you all that we the official insurer for the MKiv Owner Club and if you are a member we will offer you a 20% discount on insurance... not bad eh :)

Is this automatically done at renewal too ?
It's not shown or promoted anywhere on your paperwork...
And if I ring you and you give me your best quote could I then say "oh and by the way I'm in the Supra club" to get a further 20% off?

One of the first questions we would usually ask is if you are a member of any clubs so we can apply your club discount, this question is asked at quote stage and a record of your club membership is stored on our systems. Come renewal time, our systems will recognise that you are a club member and we will automatically apply the discount. Hope that helps.

Again, we would always ask the club membership question before we quote you.
Michael, are you the same Michael who usually has me in fits of histerics on IMOC?

It is bad if it's still hundreds dearer even with the discount, like for like cover:(;)

Dagnamit, you insurance people always have these things covered! :)

I would imagine so but someone is pretending to be me on another forum so it could be an imposter.

loving the dry wit.... oh and the Lauren baiting :d hush my mouth :innocent:
Your prices must be expensive in the first place then. Even with the '20% discount' you could not get near A Plan this year :(
Maybe next year :)
Exactly, I wouldn't rattle on too much about 20% discount, take a look at your prices mate, well out of touch the last few years I've had a quote from you :(

Unfortunately we cannot please everyone, insurance is a difficult game and rates etc change on a regular basis. Although we do try and please everyone when quoting, we cannot guarantee we are the cheapest out there 365 days a year. I am sorry you feel disapointed. Please do give us a try next year though :)
i have been insured with you for about 3 years, not sure as you will get my further business due to cheaper prices (far) by other companies

I will do that, but i get cheesed off with promises of return phone calls which i never receive :( Only after i keep ringing do i get a quote.
I will try again though for the 3rd year running and see what happens.
I too defected to A-Plan this year, they were ~£140 cheaper in the end (after me getting my renewal price slightly wrong when I told them what my cheapest quote was :innocent:)... I'll be ringing Sky next year again though, and hopefully they'll be cheaper again.
these comments are exactly what im talking about
if sky had a dedicated section in a sub forum then we would be able to discuss topics without having to start a new thread everytime there is a query.
oh and i called the office yesterday to discuss fitting nos and insuring the mod, but no call back from the office

a-plan have quoted me £124 cheaper than sky! such a mad difference i dont understand it really.

I dont think they allow NOS - well they wont for me. Im very happy with the service, i have my supra insured with sky and they tried there best to sort my other cars.
I've tried Sky for the last two year's, and two year's running i've stayed with A-Plan, much cheaper for the same cover. (Over £500 cheaper for my single qoute), now that's a BIG differance. Sky, you need to sort out your cover cost's, they seem way over the top for me.
I have also tried sky for the past 2 years and both time managed to got £500 cheeper elsewhere - i would love to give my business to Sky as they are very helpfull on the forum but its just to expensive.
sky insurance have been nothing but A1 with me so far.
im still waiting for a call from them but i was in no hurry to here back from them
i was more interested in getting a section to discuss aspects of the service sky provides not to start a slating thread
jae at sky is a top bloke and has always helped me when ever i ask questions, i just feel a bit of a plank calling to ask if i can get certain mods on the insurance e.g NOS just to be told i cant insure the mod
i just thought a dedicated section for them would make things easier

A-plan seem to be the only people that can really beat them each time though dont they?
When people phone up A-plan for quotes do you say that you are part of the club and have had a quote from Sky or are you going in afresh? Would be interesting to know if A-plan are specifically undercutting Sky each time.
I also think a section for Sky discussions might be worthwhile. I will discuss it with Jae next time I chat to him.

All i said to A-Plan was the cheapest quote i had so far, listed the same mods as i had told others and that i belong to a this site, they beat Skys quote by a mile.
Also as i said before, i am promised callbacks from Sky in like 15 minutes, but i get nothing. I end up ringing back 2-3 days later, with no apology from them.
With A-Plan they always called me back when they say they will and have so far quoted me happy :D
Even when i had to change my insurance when the turbos went (Insured in garage only), they refunded the difference with no delay.
I will always recommend A-Plan to anyone.

well i must on this occasion support the claims of sky insurance, i have 4 quotes on the table:- zenith £321 / nor union :- £289 / nfu £322 and sky £274, i must say though i had to chase all of them. not accepted any yet :search:
Aaah, does that mean the quote I had for £421 for the S13 still has to have another 20% knocked off it, since I didn't even mention nor did I get asked if I was a member of an owners club.... (And it is the 2nd car I'm insuring with Sky)

Rang sky and mentioned the club as i see there was a discount offered for this club and got a quote. They said to try when i was 25 so i will in the new year.
A-plan beat there quote by £lots (cant remember exact figure) with all mods declared with like for like replacements and i never mentioned being a member of a club.
Okay, I'm waiting to get shot down for my up and coming suggestion, but hey...
Why not invite A-plan to join the forum, and for those members who are willing to put up certain details, let the two companies bid for the business in an open forum. My license is certainly not clean (8 points), however I do have 6 years NCB and I'd be willing to go like for like. After all this is a members club and not an insurance one. I know this option might not make me popular but in the greater scheme of things it would help the members.

Thats what its all about. Totally agree with you.

Well, if the forum mod's will entertain the idea, I'll certainly be the Cavia porcellus

me too!;)
we have alot of traders fighting for our modification money
so why not the same for insurance?
a bit of healthy comp never hurt anyone;)
not that ill leave sky as they are the best on price and service IMO:)

Yep agreed.
Have tried Sky two years running now, very knowlageable but cant give me a quote...too young, when Fluxy can insure me for £900?? why such the vast difference between insurers??

I wasn't a member on here when I first insured my soop JB, so it was afresh for me. I've never mentioned A-Plan's quote or Sky's qoute's when phoning either of them either. :). Surely both partie's should give there best qoute ?. Maybe Sky like a bigger slice of the pie, but that pie will keep getting smaller if they price themselve's out of the running most of the time.

You seem to require a new keyboard, as there seems to be a few buttons missing. :p

soz guys was a bit pissed went i posted:tongue::rolleyes:
why not go for a motor traders policy (tell them you valet cars :innocent::innocent::innocent:) highway insurance are great, for me and the mrs i can own up to 4 cars and be fully comp insured for unlimited others (for use in the trade of course) with a total indemnity of 15k per car (the max price of each car can only be 15k, but you can have 4 of them:D:D)
i have 5 years no claims, the excess is £250. and i pay £650 a year, (might sound a lot but when you consider you are insured to drive ANY car), they dont give a rats ass about mods etc just as long as the value is less than 15k try contacting
www.quotemetoday.co.uk
its just an idea folks especially if you are a 2 or 3 car family as all your cars will be fully covered on one policy
Sky couldn't beat any quote given to me by my local broker too. My insurer now is Norwich Union, and I'm also insured to drive 3rd party cars as much as want ...
