Is this likely to be a sign that I need some gearbox oil? If it is, can someone please tell me what kind I need for my '95 N/A and whether I can obtain such oil from the likes of Halfords??? Make sure you undo the filler plug first, you don't want to drain it from the bottom plug and then find you cannot undo the filler plug to put the new oil in. It's filled to the correct level when it starts to come out of the filler hole (you cannot get anymore in). As Ian pointed out, the car does need to be level.
