10 year import rule - vvti supras soon to be imported?

Like the thread says - someone mentioned the other day that as vvti supras will soon be 10 years old, they will be exempt from the modal report which has so far restricted their import and registration in the UK. Is this the case, and if so does that mean we'll be seeing a flood of freshly imported vvti supras in the near future?

Don't expect much of a "flood" though - they only made a few dozen per month in the last few years. And a lot of those of those were NA or Tips.

Not that it matters, and I dunno if it's right but I heard they only carried on producing them to satisfy some rule about racing them.

'Homologation' or somesuch?

There's sure to be a few more coming in, but I'd imagine they're mostly going to be higher spec/mint ones. Lets face it the market is flooded already and supply has far out-stripped demand.

The production numbers were dropping considerably until 96ish, but then moved to almost nothing after Aug 08. That leaves only 1 year of any relatively decent volume of cars that *may* come over.

Many of these are NA models so that still leaves very few proper spec TT's.

Like I said in the other thread, yes this is the case. :p

There won't be a flood though, and they will be expensive at first.

Out of interest what was the rev 5 MR2??? didnt know they did one past rev 3

MR2 SW20 Revision 5

The final revision of the MR2 MkII is another facelift featuring another major change to the shape of the spoiler which, on the Rev 5 is adjustable and is known as the 'Combat' spoiler! The style, but not the diameter, of the Alloy wheels was changed and there were other minor detail points to the internal and external styling.

The big difference beneath the engine cover was the upgrade to the 3S-GE engine which was give Variable Valve Timing to boost its power output to around 200bhp without any significant increase in standard petrol consumption figures. This is one of the first implementations of the new engine technology now used by Toyota in most of its current day cars and for many owners the extra cost of Revision 5 models is justified by the changes to the engine alone.
