Well as the title says really. Mate of mine has a couple of grand to spend and wants a reliable-ish TT 300zx. Theres loads about in that price bracket but really would you??? I have heard alot of bad things about the older ones. The power to money though seems a good idea on paper.

Discuss.

Is his heart set on a 300ZX?

dangerous brain

He see's the ZX as a cheap way to 300 odd horses. He likes the shape and styling of it. And for some reason he thinks his mrs will not give him sh*t for buying it cos she will think its eggsottic :D

He only wants it whilst his car is being repaired post a bit of a ding. Then he'll take it back to Norway and strip it for parts out there doubling his money. Well thats his plan anyways

Better than the MK3 flashy dashy which is the only supra territory you'll get with £2k

The problem by all accounts with the 300zx, is that any engine work is DAMN difficult and you pretty much need to take the engine out... everything is so tight. (This is what I've been told by some 300ZX owners)

Again, MR2 Turbo. Looks as good (read: better :D) and you can get close to 300bhp quite easily. The thing is, it will be a LOT faster than the Datsun as it's only little ;) (up to silly speeds anyway)

Thats the one... looks like someone ran out of space on the dash and just started sticking stuff. :)

Ah thats not the flashy dash I thought all the 1JZ's had like mine had. Now that was dire.

Yeah agree about those - any of those flashy dash's are sooooo 80's tack. Inspired by KITT I think!

Cheers,

Brian.

Bry sell him an Aristo

I tried that as there are a load of them that are uber cheap now for what they are but he says he already has 2 family cars he doesn't want another one :shrugs:

The MR2 tubby seems a good idea but for 2 grand are you really going to get a decent one?? Same goes in my mind are you going to get a good 300ZX for that money either?

They are around, it's finding a good one that's the hard bit... nothing more hard work than finding a decent Supra though :D

Maybe worth giving paul at SWZ a shout as he knows these things inside and out.

relaible and 300zx do not go together, i was forever working on mine as something would break, if I could go back I would have saved the extra dosh and bought a supra

One of the reasons the zed looks good is the shape of the bonnet.
This is the root of most of the problems as well - cramped engine bay, overheating and no easy access.

Can't have everything, eh?

+ more than likely got to buy two of everything when it breaks

I would give my left tessie for that car its a stunner. Who owns that now I know it was sold recently? For slightly more than 2 grand though lol. Thing is I think when you start getting into 2 grands worth of any high power car you are walking blindly into very iffy territory.

It has been bought by a member of TIF, and he is currantly spending alot on it.

I think he plans to remove the hydro 'juming' suspention and put something more normal in it.

The 'old' suspention was great though, a small box in the arm rest box with a long wire so you could stand away from the car and raise and lower it/each wheel and get it jumping if you really wanted!!! :D It was very harsh though, like Teins on too hard a setting.

It would wheel spin in D, at almost any speed when it was floored. It was nuts, LSD fitted, so it was an interesting spin as well! Only problem was having a 5ltr V8 that was supercharged meant it drank ALOT!

I really wanted it to, so did the missus as when it came over the owner insured it and for some reason (he he he, lucky me) I was a named driver, so he let us got for a spin....

Couldnt really justify the £16+k price tag though, so had to return it.

"waits for roasting"

I'm sorry but yes the dash is "interesting" in the zed but when youve had one the dash is very well set out, and i'm sorry but the acres and acres of slab plastic dash of a supra isnt any better :p
