Hi guys,

I imported my car about 3 months ago and would like to upgrade the brakes.

I have heard that J-Spec brakes are smaller than uk spec ones. Is this true?

If I want to upgrade my brakes, am I limited to what I can put on, if so, any ideas of what I can get.

Cheers for your help.

Bear in mind that if you swap to bigger brakes, you will need bigger wheels (assuming your car has 16" which most J-spec's do).

I bought UK 17"s a couple of months ago because I was going to put UK brakes on, but I probably won't do that. So if you do need stock 17s let me know. ;)

Hi Stratty

Referring to them as UK and J-spec brakes is a bit confusing, as many of the J-spec cars came with the larger spec brakes as standard also. So first of all I'd establish which brakes you have fitted, post pics if you're not sure, so we can identify them.

Smaller spec brakes

2 pot front calipers - 296mm diameter discs

1 pot rear calipers - 307mm diameter discs

Larger spec brakes

4 pot front calipers - 323mm diameter discs

2 pot rear calipers - 324mm diameter discs

Upgrading to the larger spec brakes would be the first mod I'd do on any Supra running the smaller brakes, the difference in braking is significant.
