Ive been having problems finding my new car on the models list. The specs arent exact same as the SZ facelift

It is a Jap import
Silver
1998 R plate
Automatic

it HAS
front headlamp washers tho ive not seen these working yet
rear light fogs built in to cluster (strange black switch under steering wheel)
a digital clock readout
electric fold away mirrors
3 large dials inside
twin glovebox on passenger side

anyone know the model of this supra please,
might be obvious but im a newbie n still learnin bout the supra! :-)
Cheerz in advance

welcome mate, we would need pics, headlamp washers were only on uk spec i believe,

it could just be a an SZ with a UK front bumper on, try looking at the spec of the SZ-R ? but i will be safe to say you have a SZ the only thing on the list my SZ doesnt do is have fold away mirrors

Yep, the 3 dials tho indicate its pre-facelift i think, but its an R reg!

Thanks for ur reply guys, now u see why im confused! Deffo 3 big dials on dash, yes the front seats are electric! The fold away mirror switch seems to be factory fitted.
Something that might seem strange is that there was (and still is no) mesh covering any holes on the front bumper!
Suggestin maybe a replaced uk bumper ???

I'll head out and take some pics, see if anyone can help me with this, attach them in 2 mins!

tell you what mate, if you're going to the trouble of going outside why not just get us the VIN number and that should sort your query out ;)

My bets would be on it being a pre-facelifted SZ.

My bets as well is this another of those dvla cock ups. What year of manufacture has it got on the V5?

No need to give us your VIN just go here and check for yourself the year of manufacture etc.

Thats definitely a UK spec front bumper though.

I'd go with an SZ with UK bumper and lights and other bits and bobs...

it looks like alot of things have been changed on that car if it is a facelift and yes it does look like DVLA have cocked up

Downloading office so a kin put the details into the excel decoder and finally find the year of car. Im still waiting for the V5 to come through. If this is a pre facelift car, is it normal to have the electric folding wing mirrors? the button doesnt look to have been added!
So much for the last owner telling me it has never been modified in any way! didnt think the 3 dials and headlight washers added up! Should have an answer soon!

Its 110% NOT a facelift car, its a pre-facelift with some optional extras (like the folding mirrors) that DVLA has cocked up!

how would you put the folding mirrors mod in ? wouldnt mind it

d00gzy
05-08-07, 13:06
hmmmm, after using the vin decoder, its shows my car as being made august 1994!

so .... Should i be mad at paying £3600 for a 1994 supra with 75k on the clock? Or should i be happy that i have electric folding mirrors, uk front bumper (with washers that obviously arent made for car and dont work) and Rear fog lights built into cluster.

Shouldve done my research a bit more before buying the car, still in great condition tho and drives amazing. Obviously easy mistake with folding mirrors and a DVLA cockup on year or production!

Anyone give me info on the headlights, are these facelift lights, see pic in this thread

lol gutted! .....

The button for the mirrors looks factory fitted and would be a great mod for a supra, they fold in at same time and are as smooth as! Would u have to take them off a 98 - onwards supra?

Not a hugely bad price there mate :)

never been rallyed (recently) either, the guy was 62 that sold me it, and b4 him was his boss's car, also in his 60's. Still cant believe they half wits at DVLA. Will this affect my insurance in anyway, had to pay £1700 up front for the year so its not like monthly payments will change. Is it worth goin to the DVLA about this or when a sell it in about 5years time pass it off as an R reg lol, any suggestions?

£3600 isnt a bad price if the cars in good nick which it sounds like it is. You wouldn't get a good nick 98 for that cash really. The folding mirrors were a factory option. To be honest I prefer heated over folding. Does the V5 have 98 as both the first date of registration and the date of manufacture?

If you do go to sell it on as an R reg car have the sense not to do it here as you'll get lynched lol

£3600 is too much to pay for an auto SZ, especially one that has suspiciously had the front bumper changed (crashed?).

The previous owner almost certainly knew the car wasn't really a 98 model as it would have been worth a fair bit more than 3600 but getting that much for the bottom of the range auto SZ of a 94 vintage is good business (for the seller).

I was only joking, this is my first supra and a love it. Dont plan on selling it for a very long time! Not recieved my V5 yet as only bought it fortnight ago.

Is there much difference between the standard bumper and the uk one? a hate those daft washers!

See your point in having the heated mirrors as a cant see for 5 mins after high pressure washing the car. All my mates love the folding mirrors tho!

Few wee problems with car but will post in relevant part of forum.

maybe true jake, but am happy with car, been well looked after, plenty of service history and garage stamps, original mats in near perfect condition. plus if it wasnt for me needing a car that few days then a wouldnt have been so hasty. Learnt my lesson!
