Battery?

OK, so my supe doesnt get used all that much, weekends usually as I've got a works van.

This is why Im hoping I'm right with my diagnosis!?!

Last Saturday I was going over to my mates far a medium sized p*ssup (ended up with me walking 15miles home, but thats another story!). I was all ready for starting out, I get in to the Princess, turn the key and..... click.

Hmmm, so I try again....click..... again.... click.

FUCK!!!

So I close the car, lock it with the alarm fob, open it, and try again. It starts, no probs.I try numerous times and it either clicks, or starts. When it does start it does so with no sluggishness or any signs of low battery at all. It either clicked, or it started.

The battery I've got is a bit of a small, poxy one. So, my question is, is it the battery thats at fault? I've not had a problem in the last 2 years that I've owned the car and 2 years is a good life for a cheap battery (isn't it?).

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what it might be other than the battery.

IMO if you get 2yrs out of a battery, you are doing well. You only talk of one click when turning the key not click, click, click in rapid succession which, is the usual sign of a dead battery.

If you have a multimeter you can see what the output of your battery is before you turn it over.

Sounds very much like your starter motor contacts. Have a search, it's a job you can do yourself.

Don't waste money on a battery yet.

If the car can start normally after an an attempt at starting when it just clicks - meaning that it can jump into life quickly with the starter motor turning the engine like normal , this suggests that the battery is working okay .

Yeah I'd say no to a new battery just yet as they are bloody expensive for a good one. If you have access to another car borrow its battery and see if it does the same with that one. You can check the voltage with a multimeter with your battery still in the car, you should see a good solid 12 volts or at least high 11's

To me though really sounds like the starter circuit has issues, remember that old TV advert years ago "dodgy solenoid mate dodgy solenoid" :D Do we have solenoids?
