View Full Version : Jap car 2k limit
Hey guys
Want to stay in the Jap scene when I get my Griff will have a budget of 2k however the car will need to be fairly good on fuel and have good room inside. Would I get an old Evo for that price or would it be a dog?
lucida. :D
Why not have a look at something like a starlet. An evo at that price would be questionable at best. At least the starlet has a little engine!
Yeah I looked at them are they all 1.3l turbos???? Guess the insurance would be nice and cheap (compaired to a TVR)

it's only an option if you're a little fella though :)
Second choice would be non-jap mate so not much help here. I would go German with £2k in my pocket.
Perodua Kilisa?
bless you.
A what Jake? a Perodua.
I saw James May driving one on a repeat of Top Gear on UK G2 the other day. He reckoned it was great fun and cheap.
200sx
Almera GTi (used to own one and they are superb little cars)
MR2
100nx
300zx (maybe not good on fuel)
Starlet (as mentioned)
Previous shape Honda Prelude Vtec?
You can get good handling out of them and decent performance. Robust too.

how about a 200sx or old rx7 pre 92-93
I would say your best bet is the Honda Prelude
whats the boot space like as I will be busing 3 other people paintballing each month (and we have a fair bit of kit)
Yaris 1.0 vvt-i :)
EDIT: for 3 other people + luguage is may be too small
However a 1.0l Yaris would be cool for the misses to learn to drive in! Didnt realise they were that cheap

I would go with the Prelude v-tech. They are nice cars and reliable too. MPG isnt too bad either and boot is pretty big.
Toyota Corolla GTI-16
Ive got one as a run about at the moment until company car turns up, great little cars, revs to 7.5k! and air induction sounds superb!
How much do the old Datsun ZX things go for? Think I might put in a little more and get one of them insurance would be dirt cheap as they are a classic. Not sure on the tax side though
Honda Prelude all the way mate, old coupe shape 2.3l engine with all 4 wheels moving when you turn. 160 bhp standard version, 190 bhp for 2.2l VTEC. Great car, had a lot of fun driving it, almost like go kart :)
Well so far heres the low down

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/210955.htm Could stretch to this
Oh how does NCB work on a second car? Got 4 years that I will put on the TVR I take it my second car will have 0 years against it?

Yes
ouch an impreza WRX on 3rd party only is £3k!!! Thats more than the car is worth! Yet a 5ltr Griff is only 750 insurance is the most stupid thing ever!
Honda Civic EK type one, tastefully modified if you could find one!

Remember that insurance isn't just to cover the value of the car you buy (in fact, for 3rd party only like this, the value of the car itself doesn't matter a fig!). It also has to recoup the insurance pay outs for thefts and the (potentially limitless) damages to the other cars/buildings/pedestrians that you're going to run in to, and I imagine scooby drivers are just statistically 4 times more likely to have their car nicked or (more likely) plant it into something expensive than TVR drivers are.......
In fact, it's probably the case that cheaper high-performance cars are more likely to be bought by younger, more inexperienced drivers than your more-expensive TVRs, so all other things being equal, I would always expect the insurance cost to be higher.

Yeh but its only because he's using all his NCB on the griff. Im sure if he had nil NCB on the griff the price would be just as much maybe higher?

primera gt's are nice cars they handle well and are pretty cheap to run but that one was for sale not so long back at £1500 and it had had 7 owners then.
when i emailed the guy to ask if anything was wrong with it and if he had just bought it etc i just got an emailing sayin "PHONE ME DONT MESSAGE ME" so id take someone that knows the cars if you do view it.
