I'm hoping to get up there as early as I can. Bearing in mind its a Saturday and its miles away, this'll mean about 10am earliest!

What about the rest of you guys? Pulse, you fancy meeting up before hand?

Roy, where abouts in London are you ?

pulse
25-09-03, 11:52
I'm happy to meet up beforehand. Aylesbury is pretty close to the M40, so I'll probably just shoot straight up the M40 towards Birmingham and take it from there.

How would you be travelling?

Those going up the M1 we can probably meet at Toddington services and convoy up together. Probably meet at the services at about 9am and get to Thor for 10am.

Pete,

are there any spaces left at all fo rthe 25th?

i'd like to give the little beast a run

will it be limited to one run each as i normally pootle round at about 1.0bar but wouldn't mind what seeing what she puts down with the dsbc cranked up a few clicks to perhaps 1.2 and just see if all is safe to do so

There is space, so you're booked in. (no time, just a slot has been allocated sometime during the day)

28-09-03, 21:11
excellent thanks pete.

any idea as to whether i can have more than one single run?

ie

alter dsbc setting and try a run at 1.2bar to just check out fuelling.
(I've not driven car above 1.05bar mainly as I've not had it that long and am treating car with care, but would be happier knowing if the fuelling was ok at this higher boost level for future use/abuse)

THOR Racing
29-09-03, 12:37
If you turn up early then yes. We can do up to 6 runs per car, but to be honest the runs are so repeatable that 2 normally is sufficient.
We can change the boost settings per run, provided it's just a button press.
We won't have time to TUNE your boost controller or AFC.

Pete

:(

Ho hum. My car isn't going to be ready in time for this, some of the parts required won't be coming in til 1/11..

So I might keep it as stock, and use this as a 'baseline' run to see exactly what the modifications give the car. Can also answer the question definitively - is a J-spec REALLY 280BHP? :D

This is looking to be a decent sized Supra meet :) Maybe others who don't want to Dyno their car should come along too if they're in/near the area or have fairly easy travelling distance.. or are we all already going? :)

Obviously I don't know what TRL might think of this suggestion :) Perhaps we could do a meet after? I dunno. Ideas, ideas.

Since I had my car dyno'd yesterday at Pod, I don't know if I need my space on the 25th.. I'm hoping to get whatever problems I'm seeing sorted out by then, and at least induction fitted on my car (though that's not meant to make a power difference is it?), so I may still need it.. but I'm more a maybe now at this stage :) If all the spaces fill up and somebody else wants to get theirs done, they can have my space.

I'll definitely still come and watch, and if anybody who understands dynos and such could look at my thread (below) in the technical section and help me out I'd appreciate it, too :)

like Pulse i managed to get mine done at pod too, therefore if someone wants my slot (9. Scott) its available.

I will still probably come along to check out the place and peeps in general but am unlikely to need the dyno time.

well worth the money IMO, whilst Pulse was dissappointed on the day, the fact is via the dyno he has found out about a problem of which he was previously unaware, which hopefully should be cheap / easy fix that will liberate +30 BHP.

It highlights that whilst we drive alongside and see many supra's, we rarely get to drive any others and so cannot know if our cars are performing to their best.

Do you KNOW your car is making its reputed 320ish BHP. 260-70 is still gonna feel fast and will probably not arouse any suspicions of underperforming unless you have a wide experience of supra's of high powered cars in general. Also do you know for sure if your car is set up in sequential mode?

Putting it on the Dyno will tell you this for certain.

(BTW I have no commercial interest in THOR i'm just trying to get my spot filled on their behalf after they kindly fitted me in at Santa Pod)

Matt Harwood
14-10-03, 00:17

Hi Guys, im a new Supra owner, picked the supra up last Friday! just waiting for my NOCHEX account to activate for membership..

I've got a couple of minor issues at the moment, one being the 2nd Turbo not running!! but if I can it sorted before the dyno day I'd like to get a baseline plot to give me an idea what my standard spec Supra is running at, before I start modding!!

Other prob includes missing Traction control relay, jammed driver side mirror (wont fold), and I dont think the air con is working? other than that its mint! I sourced the supra from newera imports, spoke to Miguel earlier today and he is willing to help out once i have found the source of the problems.

By the way what time does this event start? 10am? i will be coming from East sussex, up A21 M25 M1.. hopefully i should be following Matt there, he's not hard to miss :P

Cheers!

Re earlier post, I'm not going to need this slot due to getting it done at Pod. I still intend to come up and have a look, though, so all the earlier posts about meeting up in Bicester or something still apply I guess?

Who was meeting up with me? Bicester services, A41/M40 junction? And what time?

<img src=http://www.web-axis.net/~pulse/bicester.JPG>

Btw, if any of you reading this are interested in having your car dyno'd, and you are not on this list, you really should put yourself down for it.. Pete has a bloody good setup (I've not seen the workshop, just the dyno itself) and if you want accurate and good results, I suggest you give this day a shot :) It's only 50 quid, you can't go wrong.. And come up and have a meet regardless :)

Patrick,

9am sounds fine (well not "fine", but "doable":)) to me.. I'll meet you and Mfs at the Burger King carpark then?

Osso: The earlier everybody gets there, the earlier everybody is done, but I don't think it will matter if you're a few hours later as I'm sure there will be other people taking up the space until you get there.

Got my induction and dump valve fitted today :) Sounds so cool.. Sluuuuurp, PSCHT! Not going to bother dyno'ing it, though, as I can't imagine it's made THAT much of a difference from stock 2 weeks ago.

So what time is everybody aiming to get there? 8am 9am 10am?

I'm not sure what time to set off ya see! if i set off at 6am, i might make it there for around 9am.. but is that gonna be too early?

I very much doubt i'll be going on the rollers because my second turbo wont come on even tho i have got a slot, but i will be bringing some bits up to put my Supra into TTC mode.. and if it works, i'll probably go and play on the rollers!

pulse
24-10-03, 17:37
Patrick, Mfs and I are meeting at the M40/A41 Bicester services at 9am. From there I can't imagine it taking more than 45 minutes to get to our destination (tops), so we should be there by/around 10am.

That's okay, my car has been filthy at every meet I've gone to (despite my efforts usually to clean it quickly before leaving, unfortunately it streaks a lot on the black and I still manage to turn up with a thousand dead bugs covering it).

I'm going for 'dirtiest Supra of meet' in every meet I go to. I've won so far :)

you got competition this time ! mine is coverd in metal filings, dust funger prints and general muck ! the kit is clean though :)

Hey mate..

Fancy coming over and doing mine? :D

Joy, my mk3 Supra sold on ebay today.. the guy might come 'round tonight to pick it up. I hope this one read the big bold writing "NOT SUITABLE TO DRIVE AWAY, THE ENGINE IS F**KED" - or words to that effect. Unlike the last pratt who won the auction and thought he was going to drive it to Bath. Finally my mk4 can feel at home on the driveway where she belongs :)

Not a chance I'm going to have time to wash the mk4 in the morning.. but it actually looks okay at the moment. It got given a proper polish and wash 2 weeks ago, and the rain seems to have taken the worst of the dirt off.

Either way.. I'm not getting up at 7 to wash my car :)

Nice to meet the chaps who went today. Didn't get a chance to talk to everybody, but there's always another meet. I still met loads of people I haven't met before, always nice to put a face to a name.

Condolences to Paul E for his traumas, congrats to everybody else who scored at or above expectations :) I strongly suspect nobody beat the 519 (or 516.. whatever close enough) rwhp run from the T78 (from memory) single setup, at 1.2/1.3 bar.. would be interesting to see that one running 2+ bar ;)

 to Thor/TRL for sorting this day out, was nice to see a tuning shop full of Supras :)

Hey, nice to meet ya Pulse - and others a few more names put to faces. Yeah it was a good meet. Plenty of nice cars :)

The blue one sounded phenomenal, lets hope he joins the boards ;)

My results were - 305hp @ hubs

Mods Veilside Ti, HQSSBOV, (BP Ultimate. :p)

... and it was sorry to see what happened to Pauls.. I shall make no further comment ;)

Thorin, it was the blue Japvillage car (previous owners) used in the gumball... now tuned and working properly!

Oh and Suprarob's car was VERY clean as promised

Next time i goto a Dyno run, im going to make sure i have 2 turbo's that work! :innocent: It appears that my Second turbo was blown before it was imported from Japan.. :twak:

Would anyone have any idea how much a Jap spec 2nd turbo would cost, new and second hand? and would anyone have an idea how much it would cost in labour to fit the 2nd turbo?

Not off the top of my head, but for some reason I have a sneaky suspicion Paul E might know prices soon. Also try Gaz Walker at Envy, they sell stock and hybrid turbos if I recall. www.envyperformance.com www.miami-rice.com

enjoyed today, nice to see the blue facelift with the big single run the 516hp, and that still needs some setting up ! nice to put names to faces as usuall.
very well run buy Thor, such a good system they have

i got 365bhp, 384ft/lb torque and told as i suspected i need bigger fuel pump and an FSE to smooth out my fuel graph

Yep, a great day. Loads of Supes and time to put faces to names on this board!

I was well surprised with 367 bhp and 366 ftlb torque but had the same problems as Lovatt with it running lean over 5000rpm. Will have to sort that out sometime in the future :)

Thanks to all at Thor for their efforts and commiserations to the 355 driver on the way up there!!!

Its interesting to see so far on the results that the torque is equal to or more than the power :D

265 at the wheel.. so +18% loss equalled 323bhp which was about right for a stock car.

305 at the hub, seemed a little high for me, and 305 at the fly seems way too low.. so which is it!? :conf:

power@flywheel > power@hubs > power@wheels.

Three completely different measurements. I hadn't expected there to be as big a difference as there is between wheels and hubs.

Hi All,

The sheets show FLYWHEEL power but are in fact HUB TORQUE and HUB HP figures. It's due to the correction factor (tcf) being 1.00 that there is NO compensation for transmission losses.

If I printed the hub power plots then you'd all be saying "wow my cars got 1280ft/lb torque"..... when in fact that is the torque at the wheels (due to the multiplication factor of the diff).

But as usual most people understand the figures when you say "at the flywheel" So the hub figures are divided by the diff ratio shown on the graph.

Shame Dynapack don't allow us to change the heading of the page, it'd make things a lot easier.

I also think they should make it so the marker indicators where also printed on the graph so you could see what the yellow and green boxes on the bottom of the graph was referring to.

Hope you all enjoyed the day.
Please email me any photos you have or pictures of your cars if you wish to go in to the hall of fame.

Regards
Pete

Sorry for having to limp off (literally!) so early Pete - you were busy on the big 516HP

What might be interesting if you had a few graphs of an average / BPU and BPU++ that you could show that might indicate what they mean i.e. Temp rises at induction, fuelling - this area shows potential leaning off etc etc, torque results

I found the results of the temp rises and subsequent lowering of torque really interesting

I am sure the other guys would love to see some pretty pics of what it is all about!

BTW - if you find any more bits of my turbo please dont hesitate to put them in you hall of fame!

Yes I agree.

I'll try to get some FAQ and examples on the website along with the hall of fame stuff :)

so can people send me QUESTIONS relating to the dyno....
I'll start a new thread in Technical...

Glad you've taken the experience so well Paul ;)

Was that the reason your output was lowish?

It could be, I don't know.

One thing was that it was running a bit too rich in high revs. That affected performance a bit.
And they read the boost@1.2bar, but it should have been 1.3bar... nothing serious really.
