Hi all. Can someone explaion to me just how to fit a wastegate. The wastegate is bolted onto the manifold but i need to know were to run the tube from the wastegate to the turbo. I have tried searching but nothing. Any help appreciated. Pics would be great.

Thanks alot.

Here are pictures to illustrate what i mean:

This is the wastegate, it has three threaded ports:

My question is, where do these three ports go to???????????

It is on an n/a-t and will be running 5 psi if that matters. Im assuming the boost controller connects to one of the lines coming from one of these ports???

Thanks alot in advance.

The top middle hole is for the (missing) spring pressure adjuster screw. If it's an el cheapo Chinese / Taiwanese thing it's not worth the expense of plumbing it in, buy a decent one, the cheap ones give LOTS of trouble.

Where can i get a spring adjuster screw?? Where else do the other ports go to. Its not for my car so not up to me to buy another one and the person wants to stick with this one as it come with the na-t kit. Cheers for help.

Which NA-T kit was it?

it is made by exotic speed, a company in Canada. The kit is excellent quality, just need to know how to plumb this in then its mostly ready to start.

Find on line instructions for the Apexi boost controller, it will show how to pipe up the two ports. You need a bolt and lock nut about 30mm long with the right thread for ths pring adjuster, and two correctly threaed push on pipe nipples for the 2 ports. A pneumatic supply company will have these.

i am presuming this is a single tubby instal, this has some good pics http://www.turbosmartusa.com/pdf/FG-EBOOST-40-60.pdf, are you using it with a boost controller ? and dont listen to the doom mongers who insist you must buy a £1000 wastegate mine is a £80 cheapo chinese HKS copy and its still going strong after 1 and a half years, make sure you have fuel cut set just in case it fails closed (just like any other wastegate)

Excellent Paul you dont realise how much i appreciate that. I think i know exactly how to plum it in now. Top man!!! And i agree about the price about the wastegate. Some of us are not "loaded" to buy extremely expensive parts. ;)

It is for a single t3/4 turbo for an na-t mate. :)

no problem, i reasoned if it lasted 6 months at the price you can get em it would be cost effective to just throw it away and buy a new one, i am going to have a "maintenance strip down" this summer (if it ever turns up) to check the tubular manifold and pull the wastegate apart for a once over

Sounds good, cant be too careful!!

I suggest you dont use that wastegate, it will over boost after awhile and next thing your engine will go:bang:

Just be cautious on the install.

How can you be so sure, it may be a really good wategate and not fail???

I will see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice michael

I used the same wastegate.... for about an hour until I overboosted to 2bar at Thor... I sharp took it off after that! lol

what had failed in the wastegate ? did you take it apart ?

Michel will be able to tell you, he swapped it out

just interested as i have run a XS power one for a year and a half, i work in engineering so curiousity got the better of me and i striped it before fitting and was quite surprised how well made it was

The part thats fails is the rubber seal and the pistons seizing. After awhile the S/S piston starts expanding in size and it seizes, What alot of people do is take the piston out and wet and dry the piston shaft , then re-assemble the unit with high temp lubricant. The other trick is to buy a HKS rubber seal and replace it with from the original unit.

The build quality is good, but it the components used which is below standard. The cast of the wastegate is identical to the HKS unit , the spring if fine , but the other 2 additional components do need altering to make it work well.

i dont know if mine is a different make but just done a check and its been on 2 years and i'm not exactly gentle with it, maybe its the luck of the draw

what boost are you running ? what sort of ETG are you seeing on full boost , I noticed running the .8bar spring seems to be ok with them , but running 1.2 bar tends to kill them.

I have one of these too. It's only done around 2000 miles at 1.4bar so but it only stuck once (the very first time boost was rasied past wastegate).

Time will tell and be assured I will post up here if it starts playing up :)

Its only going to be run on 5 psi so should be ok.

running 1.4 bar boost, max egt's about 800 degrees C, my wastegate is not straight off the manifold it is mounted about
10" away on a 50mm tube maybe this keeps it a bit cooler and alleviates the sticking issue
